Does anyone (besides Eric :p ) know anything about these bikes? I know this model was sold in the UK for a few years and 2009 is the first year they've sold them in the US. I'm not a huge Kawasaki fan, but I'm beginning to dig this bike. It's almost everything I'm looking for in a new bike. It's not faired and has the streetfighter appeal, it's 2 inches lower than my bike although it weighs a few pounds more, and it's a twin, although not a v-twin. It's almost everything I've been looking for in a new bike. . . . .

D'oh- can't believe I didn't tell you about it. It's basically the Ninja 650R stripped with exactly the same engine and frame. I like it except for that droopy headlight. The P-twin is great! Great bottom pull and midrange. I lifted the front passing a car from a near stop yesterday. Oops- too happy on the throttle in first and second. Nice thump under the sewing machine sound.
exactly what phenix said^ p-twins have this awesomely broad predictable powerband. great sound too.

So the p-twin is similar in it's power delivery as a v-twin? The sound too?
I love the power delivery and sound of my SV.....

I know I was considering a street or speed, but I'd have to lower one and well, everyone pretty much knows how I feel about lowering bikes. I still have yet to sit on one. It's still on my list of considerations, I just added the Kawi to the list.

The ER6n was released in Europe first and then followed by the ER6f (aka American Ninja 650r). Since that America is infatuated with either cruisers or sportbikes, Kawasaki decided to release the Er6f/Ninja 650r first and then the naked version this year.
Parallel twin's power delivery is similar to V-twin except that the exhaust would sound a little more growly than thumpy.

I wish they'd release one of the earlier color schemes they had for the bike in the UK in the US. It's pure sex! :whatwhat:

I agree, but I do love the versys!! Its a sexy bike as well, just one I would need to lower to comfortably ride...sat on it at the dealer, he bout died when I picked her off the stand, he didnt think I could do so...but barely having tippy toes on the ground didnt give me a great level of comfort as leaning it over onto 1 foot placed so much weight on the foot and leg, it would be too easy for my foot to slide out and leave us both on the ground!
Yea or the Ducati Monster 620

It's smoother with less "rattle." That was one of the things that turned me off the SV and air cooled Buells. Stock suspension is better than the SV too :nee

Just wait if you don't want to paint it. Kawi likes to cover all the color bases in about a three year rotation. Or you could try to trade plastics/ tank over a bike-specific forum.. Plenty of kids with the '06 two-tone 650R swapped lowers to match.
a PC and can wake the 650R up, would think that it would do the same for this one
Most of the aftermarket exhausts look and sound like shit. They just make it louder and lose the thump- and then it really sounds like a lawnmower. JMNSHO of course. The only one I care for is the Laser Extreme, but dropping $600 on an exhaust sucks. I'll just be greedy with the sound of mine and not draw cops.
You sat on my 650R Rogue- that's with aftermarket lower bars. They really changed the riding position for the better for me. No more elbows at the ears. The stockers made the riding position cramped for me, but it's really upright and an easy reach for shorter riders. The ER6N sits the same as the stock 650R. For a while they had photos of a girl on the Ninja on Kawi's site.
boo @ 180 degree crank. 360 twins are much mo awesome

This is the first Kawi I've taken an interest in. I'm off work Monday so I'm going to go by the local dealership and see if they have one I can check out. If it were a v-twin, it would be perfect. :D
As far as Ducs, they're a little too rich for my blood. Plus I haven't found one I really like. :idk:
I'm looking to get a new bike next year. I'd like to get a leftover '09 if there's one available, but it's no big deal if it isn't.

the thing I don't care for is the dry clutch on the Ducati's.
I told Tina that I didn't want her to get the Triumph. they never really had a good dependability reputation and I'm sue getting parts for them isn't going to be easy either.
their build quality has improved drastically over the past couple years and considering that they have widespread standalone dealers i sincerely doubt parts will be any harder to come by than anyone elses.

I'm just thinking that they have such a small share of total bike sales that their network couldn't be as good as others. I don't really know, I don't know anyone that owns a triumph to ask about parts availability.

http://www.buell.com/en_ca/bikes/street/XB12Scg/ It's two inches lower just for short people like you! lol
And I do believe they used to make a 984cc version that you could likely pick up fairly cheap.
Then there's the lack of maintenance. No chain to lube or replace, no valve adjustments, no coolant to flush or worry about.
Makes most of it's power where you need it. And it'd be fairly cheap...

Probably because it's an I-4. The only reason why the gix is on my list is because I've sat one and it feels almost perfect. Most of the other bikes I have yet to sit.
The main thing I'm looking for in my next bike is comfort, which includes how well I can actually touch. Yet I don't want a torture rack. I've sat the R6's and the CBR's and the position is way too agressive for me and it's not comfortable for me. Weight is a semi issue. I prefer something who's weight will be close to the SV.
I would prefer another V-Twin. I love the power delivery of the SV and wish for something similar. Until I'm a more competent rider, I prefer to stay with something that's similar to what I'm used to.
Design/looks: I've always loved the naked and streetfighter look over fully faired bikes. Besides, I'm lazy and don't want to have to take more off than necessary just to change the oil. I break stuff almost everytime I work on my bike so I try to keep replacement parts cheap and to a minimum.

Demo bikes are meant to be ridden hard! I don't know about Harley and there "ride anything" deal, but any other company that does demos considers the fleet a writeoff. They're advertisement. Though usually you don't get to ride that hard because the rides are lead by an employee at a less than spirited pace.

When I demo'd the vrod it had less than 10 miles on it. Guy told me to take it easy...then proceeded to leave me in the dust. I guess it depends who you get. Oh yeah...this guy was the sales mngr.
How did you like the vrod?

I really liked it. The corner clearance isn't much...but it handled really well, especially for having a 240 rear.
