View Full Version : Better mileage tires?

Last 3 sets of tires, were 2 sets of Pirelli Corsa III's and before those regular Pirelli Diablos, they dont last worth shit on this bike...i currently have about 1,000 miles on this set and the rear is about toast! I understand that nothing will last a LONG time on the rear of my bike, but what is a good longer lasting tire, that still sticks pretty good?

Bt 021 About 2800 best I've got stuck like glue and the wear was even and the 180 is $120 from AMT!!
Road 2CT Have not tried them yet but riders that have love them
Roadsmart I got 2000 out of one of these and it stuck well!!

P.S. You need to run 36 -38 PSI cold

I hear the Pilot Road 2's are getting good millage(10K) while still being pretty sticky. It's a dual compound tire.

I've heard the same thing about the Pilot's.

I'm running the BT016's right now and hope to get a lot out of them. :idk:

4K miles? I'd be happy with that!

I'm running them on my GSXR 1100, which usually eats tires. So far I've got something like 10K Km on them, including many twisty runs and two track weekends. They stick as well or better than my Pilot Powers did and still have a ton of life in them. I would highly recommend them. ;)

It seems that that"s about average for any set of street tires. I don't need tires that are softer than that for street use.

lol. I've gotten almost 7 thousand out of my rossos and they are good for another thousand probably. Its all about how hard you get on the throttle out of the corners. If you don't try to be rossi on public roads, they will last a lot longer. Me, I'll either be going with Road 2s or 021s.

Well you asked but you won't like my answer! Keep in mind I do mostly touring but I have been to the Gap a couple of times and Shady Valley on them too with no problems.

BT020's

16,000 first set
14,500 second
Third set only has 3,000 so I will have to get back to you... :)

I am jealous. Hopefully when I get my next set that are sport tourers, I will get that kind of mileage.

Someone posted good reviews on the BT021's too. I might try them next time!

Start to look into the sport touring tires. If you're not running on the track then these tires are plenty sticky for canyon/twisty carving:

Pirelli Diablo Strada
Metzler Roadtec Z6
Conti Road Attack

I'm looking at either stradas or bridgestones. Bridgestone seems to be the way to go performance per price at this point.

Yea I don't do too well with rears... shit or fronts for that matter. I got about 3000 from the BT-016s which is about average for me. Of course, I tend to throw tires away earlier than most....

I have the Stradas on my SV and love em. Can't tell you how they would handle on a liter bike though.

I got 5K out of my last pair; went with them again this time around. They stick well on the NoGa roads, even when it's colder out.

I just got back from 8 days at Deals Gap. I put a set of 021's on before the TWF Rally and then rode all this past week on them in the mountains. I didn't have any problems hanging with the race tire crowd and they still look good. Actually they don't look all that used. It is the first time I've ever come back from there with tires that were still good.
I got 5K out of the last set and probably could have rung another 1K out of them, but changed them out to have fresh tires for the hills. I think I paid $176 for the pair.
BT-021's ROCK!

Where could one find a set from $176?

I am also running BT021s and have 3500 on the rear with very little wear. Grip has been great in wet and dry conditions. I will be sticking with them.

OK, I lied. I was thinking about my chain & sprocket set...
Sorry

American Moto Tire $233.98 to the door.

Unhappy with my corsa IIIs. Will be switching back to pilot road 2s.

I have about 1200 miles on the pirellis and 3500 on the pilots. And the pilots look newer.

You are also comparing corsa IIIs to road 2s for mileage. Are you serious?

There's also the fact that they move around a lot and feel like they're greased when I lean over and get on the gas.

But, he was asking about milage.

As for them moving around a lot, I'm not a hard rider. The only time I see the edge of my tire is when I'm going too hot into a corner. I just don't like them. Maybe I got the bad tire of the batch? :idk:

My Dunlop Roadsmart rear has 4500 miles on it on my CBR 1000, and it looks like I'll get 6000 out of it for sure. I've been impressed with this tire and I will put another on when it's time. I use my bike to commute to work during the week when the weather is not bad, to work and back is 58 miles on the Hwy so I try to use sport touring type tires for better mileage but that are designed for sport riding as well. I think I've found a nice balance in this tire.

I'm debating between the Roadsmart and BT 021 for my F4i though could easily come down to best price.

never had a issue on the 1000, stick like glue..even on the edge hard on the gas in 2nd coming out of a corner, only had it spin a couple of times

they just dont wear worth a damn, but i'm thinking nothing will last long on the rear of this bike if you twist your right hand a lot

i think i'll either..

1. keep using Corsa III's, and keep shelling out the cash, cause they stick

2. get some sort of sport/touring tires and slow down(cause i dont think i'll trust them on this bike, it just pulls so HARD out of the corners) even though i'm not on a track..blah blah track blah blah, the roads and the pace we ride sometimes, I just dont think i'd be happy with them

3. race take offs, since i can get like 3 good used sets for the price of a new set of corsa III's(this doesnt sound bad, cause good price and traction!)

BUT i did just find Corsa III's 120/190 set for $285 shipped, not too bad

may just stick with what i know works good for me on this bike, and keep moaning and bitching about buying tires

I don't have those assues with my Corsa III's. However, I am really leaning towards the Road 2's next set. Any group riding I do is with the Baltimore crew from Squidbusters...and it's 60 miles to the rendezvous point. Thats tough on a rear Corsa.

Pilot Road 2 FTW!!! I have that on the back of my bike and it's been pretty much slabbed the whole time since I work and go to school so much and have no time for mountain fun anymore. Tire still looks great and rides great.

But I do have a normal Pilot Power on the front (not 2ct)

I have Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Pro tires on my Duc.. surprisingly, they've lasted 5600 miles so far, and I still have a fair bit of tread on them. They have excellent stick (although I imagine I probably don't ride as aggressively as you, so YMMV). They are pretty pricey, though...

Whatever the current equivalent of the Bridgestone BT-20's would probably be a good bet if you want mileage and reasonable stickiness.. I got about 10k miles out of those tires and did lots of rides in the twisties without any problems.. but then that was nearly 6 years ago. Dunno how well the current generation of BT-20 tires works... :idk:

WOOHOO!!!!!!! Good to see ya Rick!!!

I just got a set of Pirelli Sport Demons...they stick good, but I've heard they wear out fast too. I think I can sacrifice mileage for good sticky tires myself...especially while I'm de-greenhorning...lol

I would suggest going with more of a sport/tourer if you want mileage.

I'm sure you know too that tire pressure makes a difference in how long they last.

The easiest solution is to lay off the throttle. :)

I loved the Corsa III's on my buell, but the wear sucked as you said.
Got Pilot Powers on now, hoping to get 6K out them, yet to be determined.

I just use the stock Dunlop D220's and get about 6,500+ depending on how I ride them.
