The Honda looks like it accidentally sniffed a skunk, while rear-ending a truck. In fact all the Jap liter bikes are ugly this year. The R1 has bat eyes, a tail that's too short, and out-of-style undertail exhaust. The Gixxer has flat-out UGLY exhaust, and having two cans is just wasted mass. The Kawi has those ghey signal-mirrors, and that lame stripe between the headlights that makes it look like some sort of rooster or insect.
The early/mid 90's were the best years for Jap bike styling -- it's all gown downhill since then.

i would have liked to seen them track test them at another track too, where top speed one have been a factor, would have really let the zuki and kawi shine
they said they were confident the suzuki(if not limited to 186) would easily pull redline in top gear..mid to high 190's ..stock!
the honda had the best 1/4 time, but from reading it is also lower geared than the other 1000's...so
either way, they all seem to be pretty awesome machines...well cept the duc, i dont count it, cause its $5,000 more and has 200 more cc's
but i'm kinda let down by the new R1, little heavy and underpowered compared to the others, it really didnt do well at all, just read about it in the new SportRider and they seemed quite surprised by the higher weight and LOWER HP than last years model

My '01 GSXR was by far the best looking sport bike I've ever owned!!! I loved everything about that bike... everything!!! My '06 has grown on me with extensive changes, of course. I will be keeping my bike for at least another year or two, until Suzuki can come up with a different looking bike... although an aftermarket exhaust, some different plastic and white rims MIGHT help.

But the July 2009 issue of Motorcyclist picked the R1, regardless of the weight and lower HP.

IMO the K5/K6 was a step up in looks.......I did not like the shovel-shaped headlight on the 01
But then in 07 everything went to hell on nearly every bike

I don't like the front view of the Honda, but it is the best looking bike for sure.

IMO the exhaust is the only good thing about the Honda. The tail is too small and short, the vent on the lowers is too straight-edged, and then of course there's the whole problem with the front end.

I would take either the R1 or Honda based on looks.
Performance? See what I said about appearance.

Remove the fender and passenger pegs, get a seat cowl and they clean up real nice. I can't see my bike while riding it so looks are secondary.

Honestly I've never thought the 1000RR was bad lookin. The front isnt bad, its the tail that I thought was kinda cooky. And just throw some new cans on the Gix1k and she isnt bad lookin either.

The best looking R1 came out in 07, and the zx-6r was nice....

I agree....any of them make for an awesome ride.
No way I'd give up my 07 R1 for an 09 R1 and have to pay the difference it would cost me to do so.

The best looking R1 was in 2002.
And there weren't too many bikes before 98 that I would even consider, they're so ugly.

I'm partial to the under tail exhaust years. Probably 07/08 being my favorite.

All hideous... Especially the RC30.
And just to explain a bit more. Skinny tires, right side up forks, hideous paint, squared off oversized fairings are just a few reasons I don't like their appearance.

Hmm, I guess I'm the opposite. I like fuel tanks and cowls that are squared off and parallel to the ground, because I think it makes the bike look longer & sleeker. Most of today's bikes look too short.

I lied. I do like the 96 zx7r. But, only because it has USD forks and non round front headlights.

The ZX7R is much more collectible (and expensive) with it's aluminum gas tank, close-ratio trans, flat-slide carbs, adjustable swingarm pivot, etc., but the ZX7 is a better streetbike.
The weird thing is that I happen to have the August, 1990 issue of Cycle (RIP) magazine in front of me. I have it out because they tested the CBR1000F. But they also tested the RC30, ZX7, and GSXR750. The ZX needed carb, suspension, and seat work. The RC had the best handling, but very tall gearing. They preferred the Gixxer overall.
The magazine also tested the VFR750, Ninja 750R, and 750 Katana. They said the VFR was a generation ahead of the Katana, and two generations ahead of the Ninja. The ZX7 for sale in Denver looks just like a ZX7R, and it would be easy to shim the carb needles, and add an aftermarket shock and seat.

Yeah the white looked good, especially if you put black pinstripes around the edges of the white sections.

Not bad. Replace that black with the old school purple and we've got a real throw back.

I was just thinking to myself that if they are going to claim legacy paint job they need to paint those rims green too.
that and add 200lbs
