In January Texas-based tuning firm Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) announced plans for a highly modified 2010 Chevrolet Camaro that the company plans to launch early next year. Called the HPE700, the limited edition Camaro will boast a 705hp (526kW) output and joins other mega-power custom cars like the recently launched ‘Godzilla 700’ Nissan GT-R and a string of ‘Venom’ Dodge Vipers. Today the company announced it has successfully fit the same supercharged LS-variant engine found in the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 into the Camaro's engine bay.
However, in the Camaro, the force-fed LS9 V8 mill will churn out a peak output of 705hp (526kW) and 717lb-ft (971Nm) of torque. The custom Camaro will also pick up the ZR1’s 15in carbon-ceramic brakes, light weight HRE wheels and Michelin PS2 tires.
In addition to the power and handling upgrades, Hennessey will also be offering an exterior aerodynamics package to improve downforce at high speed. Penned by British designer, Steve Everitt, Hennessey's ‘Cam-Aero’ body upgrades include a carbon-fiber rear lip spoiler, carbon-fiber side rocker panels, a carbon-fiber front splitter, a new front fascia with hideaway-look headlights, and a front billet grille. Completing the look of the HPE700 is a ZR1 inspired hood design with a plastic window showing off the Hennessey's tweaked LS9 powerplant.
HPE700 buyers will also receive a one-day performance driving course at Lonestar Motorsports Park – a ¼ mile dragstrip facility located adjacent to Hennessey's 24,000 square foot production facility and showroom.
Hennessey offered the first HPE700 Camaros exclusively to registered bidders at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. However, the car will eventually be available to the general public or ordered from select Chevrolet dealers as well as directly from Hennessey. Pricing will start at $109,500. Twenty-four of the cars will be built, but 11 are already spoken for, so if you want your own piece of completely unreasonable muscle-car Americana, you'd better hurry.
The story doesn’t end there as Hennessey plans to launch other turn-key vehicle packages for the new Camaro as well as an extensive list of aftermarket performance parts and accessories, including the recently announced, slightly tamer Camaro HPE550.

Oh the one with the window? Yeah I'm not too crazy about that either...I don't mind the "hump" but it should be solid imho.
yup thats the one. I got in a huge argument with some of the gm heads in my car club over that thing. I understand that the lsx series of motors isint exactly the best looking lump out there but if you are gonna show the engine actually show the fucker. A hideous plastic window showcasing an equally hideous plastic engine cover is unforgivable in the six digit price range. Then again so is the asking price. Loving that the ''performance driving school'' is held at a dragstrip :lmao:

Uh, wasn't Hennessey the guy who was investigated for fraud, for stealing parts off customers' cars, and not finishing work as promised?
And sorry but I can't get very excited about someone putting a Corvette engine in a Camaro. That's been done 10 billion times already. Kinda like the Omni GLH getting the intercooled turbo engine. You knew it was going to happen anyway.
Do something original.

Why would I pay 6 figures for a Camaro?
Why not get the ZR1 for the same price?
Why not just use some of the bazillion options to build up a stock Camaro?

Supercar performance from a 638hp supercharged V8 engine, carbon fiber bodywork and sharp styling should all add up to a price tag in the $200,000+ range if you look to the competition, but the Corvette ZR1's unmatched value put its sticker price at just $104,920 for 2009. That price will be going up for 2010, but not enough to push the ZR1 from its bang-for-the-buck pedestal.
Pricing for 2010 will start from $107,830, a rise of $2,910 over the 2009 sticker, reports CorvetteBlogger. Once you add in the $1,700 gas guzzler tax, the total climbs to $109,530 for the 3,333lb (1,512kg) 2010 Corvette ZR1.
That's still about half the price of its nearest performance rivals, and only about $20,000 over the 480hp (358kW), 3,800lb (1,727kg) Nissan GT-R.
Aside from the modest 2.8% price bump, the 2010 ZR1 will also get launch control and the new Performance Traction Management system, both worth the expense in their own right. A new optional 'competition gray' wheel package will also be available, as will new interior and exterior color options.
The standard Corvette also saw a slight price rise this year, up $365, though it also gets the upgraded launch control and traction management systems.

this was kinda my argument against the zr1 in the first place. You're demanding six figures for whats basically a factory built version of the most common aftermarket mod path. for that kind of money i want something you cant clone, gimmie a flatplane crank or a lsx based v10 or 12, hell just put dohc heads on it again with cam on bucket architecture and spin the fucker to 10k. Anything but what they did. Fuck

Well I'm sure GM will be selling crate LS9's, someone will sell CF body panels, you could build your own probably for less than Hennessey. Now they might do more engineering to the package than that, or not.

And that's why the 90-95 ZR1 was so special, it had an engine that couldn't be duplicated by the aftermarket.
Still rather have a 65-67 convertible with side pipes, but that's another subject.

Texas-based tuning firm Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) has already announced plans for a highly modified 705hp (526kW) version of the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, which it plans to launch early next year, but if over 700 horses under your hood seems a bit extreme Hennessey also sells a ‘milder’ 562hp (419kW) version. New photos of the car revealed today show that its looks match its capabilities.
Called the HPE550, the limited edition Camaro joins other mega-power custom cars like the recently launched ‘Godzilla 700’ Nissan GT-R and a string of ‘Venom’ Dodge Vipers, and nicely fills the void left by the canceled Z28.
Hennessey has decided to stick with the Camaro’s standard LS3 V8 engine from the range-topping SS model but thanks to the addition of a Magnuson supercharger and stainless-steel Corsa sports exhaust system output has been boosted to 562hp (419kW) at 6,200rpm and 557lb-ft (754Nm) of torque at 4,200rpm. Other modifications include new fuel injectors, a high-flow intake, aluminum wheels and custom aero package.
According to Hennessey’s own claims the HPE550 Camaro will sprint to 60mph from rest in just 4.1 seconds and pass the quarter mile in 12.1 seconds at a 119mph trap speed.
Such performance doesn’t come cheap, however. The kit alone costs $18,950 without installation, and this is on top of the $31,000 base price for the Camaro SS. Hennessey can also fully install it for the price $24,950, which also comes with a half-day performance driving lesson at the Lonestar Motorsports Park drag strip near Hennessey’s workshop in Houston, Texas.
Looking to the future, Hennessey Performance has a twin-turbo 1,000hp Camaro in the works, so stay tuned for more.

I'm interested to see what happens with the value of these cars in the future. Yenko did this with some early Camaros and while I don't know about now, they commanded a hefty premium over factory Camaros of the same vintage not long ago.

Wasn't Yenko associated w/ Chevy in some semi-official capacity? At any rate, Yenko had a much better rep than Hennessey. An OEM Camaro will be a much less worse "investment" than a Hennessey Camaro - I can assure you of that.

It appears that Hennessey has a similar type of deal.
The original car is being offered as a special edition by selcet dealers.
Hennessey offered the first HPE700 Camaros exclusively to registered bidders at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The lesser HP car seems like a kit you'd buy from or send the car to them.
I agree, Hennessey is a crook. I don't know why Chevy would want to do business with him.
But if the car can be bought through, seen at and delivered to your local dealer, your chances of getting the product promised seem better than the guys shipping their cars to his shop.
