View Full Version : Add me to the rolls of the unemployed..

Well, I finally did it. I gave that place 18 years of my life and he definitely got his pound of flesh out of me. I finally had enough, and put words to action.
So, I am now on the market. I have one interview tentatively scheduled for this week, and I have a few other things in the works, so hopefully it will be a short lived unemployment. Stressful, sure, but not as stressful as what I've been dealing with for far too long now.

I would have walked in. Reached across that desk and grabbed him by his big fat head and said, "Listen man! I ain't going to jail for you, or anybody!".
Seriously though, good luck with the job hunt. Though I'm not sure what you do..

And yes, I am looking Texas. Looking here too just in case something pops up. Carolina is leaving in 2 weeks for her year deployment, so worst case, if I do find something here, it will tide me over for a year until she comes back.

He was more upset than mad. However, I had tried to talk to him many times before and nothing ever changed. I grew very tired of being yelled at for things that didn't even rise to the level of a raised voice, much less yelling.
May I ask what type of work you do Trace?
Civil Engineering. Designing roads, bridges, water, sewer, subdivisions, municipal work, etc.
A Galaxie? Of all the Fords to choose from, and he has a Galaxie? :D

It's a 1965 two door hardtop. I've had it since I was 17. Learned everything I know about working on a car on that one with my dad. Needless to say, it's not for sale.

Nope.. I have the kids (and only 2.. 3 if you count the Ducati  ), but thankfully my ex-husband and I are both still working... not as though we could just up and quit our jobs anyway. I think I put in my 2 week notice to the Army halfway through my last deployment, and they still haven't gotten back to me.. :tt:

Sometimes you dont have a choice guys, its either tell them to fuck off and leave, or go to jail for doing something you shouldnt...I've only left one job without really lining something else up, and honestly, it was the best decision of my life! For the first time career wise, I stood up for what I believed in and became unemployed. I'd do it again if need be. Trace-good on you man for doing what you needed to do. I have a feeling you were prepared and arent just winging it, so good luck! :dthumb:

There are a lot of people looking for work in a thin job market. And if I could put up with 4 years, I'd put up with another week or 10 until I had a new job lined up. That's just me, I wish Tracy luck. Plus I know he's just doing this so he can move.

Most employers aren't stupid enough to actually put illegal requests in writing. After all, they don't all work for the Federal Government.

There are many things more important then money. Sometimes you just have to leave. If he has been wanting to leave for 4 years and just left now then he put up with it as long as he could. Its nice to have something lined up when you leave it doesn't always work that way.

It's about impulse control, either in the last 4 years while you hated your job, you go find a new one, or you live with it for a few more weeks while you get a new one lined up.
Now, it seems that there's more to the story, and maybe Tracey was asked to do something that wasn't proper, which does change it some. But from the side comments, that had happened before, which gets back to he had 4 years to find another job.

From what I remember (I could be wrong. I'm sure it will happen some time) but he has been looking since last year.
I don't think it was an impulse. My guess would be that he thought it out a bit.
And I agree that if anyone else is thinking of quitting their job, they should look for and find one first. It could save some headaches.
