Looking for job ideas, something entry-level that could turn into long-term career. Trade school is a possibility.

This is for 35 yo male.
Past job experience is bar-tending and car sales.
Has a bad back, so physical labor is not an option.

My thoughts so far are:
CAD operator
Pharmacy tech
Wireless services/cell phone sales

If he's also in Hawaii, he could become a "Suntanologist" and roam the beach giving tan advice and selling suntan lotion...

Hard question to answer without more info on what he likes and what would interest him.

Non destructive testing.

Check metal structures for fatigue and impurities.

Also do post failure analysis.

Pays well, and you play with gadgets all day.

He could be one of those people that braid hair on the boardwalk/at the market...or is that just in the Bahamas? I don't remember.

well I guess since he's 35 he must know what his "strengths" are... what is he good at? What does he do for a hobby for example? I almost applied to New Enough to work as the "Warehouse Manager" he gets to check out new gear and evaluate if whether or not they want to sell it! Sounds like a good job for me!!!

Does he have any talents or skills? Or is he looking to go to school for something.

Most of the stuff above requires experience or training.

Pharmacy tech pays well and is very easy. Plus, he could work at a VA hospital and get paid rather well.

What did he like and not like about his other jobs?

Does he want to work inside or out?

Does he like to work with his hands?

Whats more important to him? Money or doing something he enjoys?

I'd check out pharmacy -- it isn't desk-bound like CAD, and is probably easier.

I would not do wireless sales.........Too many kids or otherwise childish coworkers.

What did he like and not like about his other jobs?
He likes new challenges to deal with, not doing the same thing over all the time.

Does he want to work inside or out?
I think inside. Hawaii is too hot to be outside.

Does he like to work with his hands?
No, don't think so.

Whats more important to him? Money or doing something he enjoys?
I don't think money as important, as long as there is enough to pay the bils and a little extra. No sure what he really enjoys, other than he's a gamer. Not into sports or riding, no hobbies.

jeez get him beta testing video games they can pay around 10-30 dollars an hour depending ont he company, the only problem is unless you get hired full time most of the payed beta/alpha testing gigs only last 4-24 weeks. Get to play a lot of different games, must have solid writing skills and ability to communicate with the developers, with glitches and bugs.
good luck.

or tell him to sell blood and semen

CAD operator can be same old same old - it's desk bound and with as many drafters as are out of work right now, it might be really tough to break into.
That being said, I love it. I'm good at it. And I have made a career of it. But you have to be suited for it - or you burn out fast.
