Who uses it?

What have you got? Brand/Leg/Elbow/etc.

Was thinking about getting some armour for my knees considering I usually ride in jeans on the street. Just looking for some extra protection. :idk:

I wear an icon back protector. My suit has everything built in. When just riding around town I wear the jacket with armor built in, then nothing on my legs.

for when I ride to work. They go over my jeans and fit nicely in my backpack while I am at work. :beers:

I'm surprised you don't know this but I use Icon leg armor. I've had three get offs using it with zero leg damage. I highly recommend it! In fact, I took the crappy armor out of my nylon pants/ jeans and use the Icon instead. Pants, not leathers, tend to be looser and I can easily see the armor being deflected (high/low or left/right)at first impact. Plus the Icon stuff covers much more of the knee area than built in armor. Which puts it in my boots making it basically impossible for it to be "out of position" in a crash. For $60 it's well worth it to me!

I always wear a armored shirt, kidney belt and knee/shin protector if we go dualsporting.

The knee protectors did an excellent job yesterday when I tried to cross two trees at once (I should have known better). Long story short, I took a good spill and dented my knee protector permanently.... I didn't even feel it. The only "injury" I have is a hurting right boob :skep: (my chest plate is cut for men).

I use A-Stars knee, shin guards on the street when I'm not wearing full leathers. I like the T-Pro stuff (have chest protector) and may completely change over the other pieces but the A-stars is cheap and comfortable for the time being.

Mines built in to my A* and Joe Rocket jackets. I wear Draggin' Jeans utility style with kevlar plus CE-rated armor added for knee/shins but I don't know what brand the armor is.

Boy if you were my size, I'd send you some armored underpants! Mine are so hot, you may as well be wearing leather!!! That's why I went to the knee armor set-up I use now.

That may be a good option as well Tig. I will need to buy some baggier jeans but I just dont like having my knees un protected. I wouldn't mind having some armored shorts and then knee guards. Will have to start shopping around.

I don't know seems expensive... I thought Draggin' jeans sold ladies sizes? For that money you may be better off with armored mesh pants. Except for the "Power Ranger" factor!!!

They do. I do not like the way they fit. VERY high waisted. Next time I'm out in NC I might stop by the Draggin Jeans store to try some more on.

I have mesh armored overpants. They are very hot when not moving (ie bike nights etc) and they do look like ski pants.

Hmm I think we sort of agree on something... I think that armor that straps to your body, like my knee armor, is more effective than armor placed in a jacket or pants.

I've been thinking of picking up a set for myself and one for the wife (especially after her low-speed get off a couple of months back) for riding to bike nights and the like.

I like the Icon stuff, but I can get dirtbike stuff for like 12 bucks. What is the Icon giving me for like 5 times the price?

If anyone wears dirtbike knee armor and/or Icon knee armor, I'd like to hear about it.

Haha "Mr Know it all" to the rescue!!! I have Thor knee armor and it is bulkier and is more of a brace than impact protection. Also, it is my opinion that the materials used are not suited to abrasion resistance. For instance the Fox armor that Jalaan uses doesn't have an upper strap which will make it easier for the guard to rotate on initial impact leaving the knee defenseless. Also, the Fox guards use much thinner plastic and less foam. They are designed for impacts in the dirt at < 50 mph. The Icon and A* guards use a denser material (Delrin, I believe) plus their plates are much, much thicker than the off road stuff with better padding and mounting straps. When the off road stuff was being designed they were not thinking 100'+ slides down the asphalt starting at 100+ mph with a heavy impact to start the show. When I wear my Icon leg armor and A* boots, I feel that I am completely protected from the knee down!:rockwoot:

I got the bionic cause i got a great deal on it off of ebay. The main reason i got it was for the back protector. A guy another, forum im part of struck a tree with his body. He had to wear a chest/back brace and just got it off last month.

I was going to get the Icon vest but they dont make a small size.

I have a bionic jacket as well. The Stella womens model. Love it. I mostly bought it for Dual sporting since dirt bike armor just doesn't seem tough enough for a street crash. Haven't worn it too much yet.

Tigger, thanks for the insight. The vast majority of the riding we do out here is low-speed stuff, so I'm thinking that the dirtbike stuff might hold up. I just want something between the knee and the pavement without having to put on my full leathers for cruising to Bike Nights and helping out on the MSF pad.

There's varying degrees of rise height and a lot of these jeans practically go up to your tits they're so high waisted. :nono:
