Another one of those 150+ horsepower tlr's i guess cause its yellow it does 200+ as well.
don't post these joke ones in the FS section and whoever approved it for the FS section, don't do that either.

that TLR at the dragstrip last night was having problems out running the GSXR 1K. was probably the rider though, he got out ran by the TLS.

Its a joke? The guy may be stupid but could be a good guy to steal a bike from... IDK
Ill take a used tlr over a new gsxr any day. One of the top 5 sportbikes ever made, IMO.. And 140hp at the wheels isnt that unbelievable with good pipes, filter, mapping, and the right sprockets.
If it was closer, and I had 4k, i'd jump all over that tlr.

150HP is pretty easy with a full exhaust, filter, power commander and the do-it-yourself mods for this bike. Speed comes with gearing it up but top end was never what this bike was built for, so even I doubt it will out run a newer R1...besides, everyone knows, the Black Tillers are the fastest:rockout:...

if your talkin crank horsepower its not unbelieveable, hes saying rear wheel if im not mistaken. That would only cost about 4-6k in motor work. or a bit of nitrous.

Not real hard, its all about picking the right parts and maximizing efects. A stock Tiller made about 98 horses, a set of Yoshi lip ons made about 115...only 35 and the majic 150. A filter, map and less restictive air box put you right at the 150 mark.

Dude, I'm sorry but to get any motor to increase power output by 50% is not going to be a matter of a few bolt-ons...that's ridiculous to even suggest. Sharp bike though! I have all of the mods you are describing on my GSXR, I guess I should be making oh about 220 hp right about now... Shit, I've seen guys with big bore kits, air box mods, modified cranks, ported and polished heads, you name it and they don't gain 50%. In fact, consider WSBK. All of those bikes on the grid are modded to the max with the best parts available to man and they are "only" gaining around 25%.:idk:

Caster Troy used to have a TITS TLR. And it wasn't making 150. I believe he said 135.
G-Rex has a well worked Tiller as well, I do believe. And I don't think his is near 150 either.
Hell, I wish I could pick up 10% more power on mine..

Shit 135 from 98 (not my number btw) would be phenomenal without major internal modifications that would almost certainly destroy reliability!

I haven't dyno'ed my TLR, but I will say that it does have some motor work and bags the rev limiter like yesterday. I really need another 1500 rpm on the redline to really see what she's got, but until I build the bottom end *and* find a Yoshimura adjustable computer, well..yeah.
For the seat of the pants evaluation.....When the 2003 GSXR 1000 first came out, I bought the first one in town. I happened to have the GSXR and my TLR at my shop at the same time. I think the GSXR was getting the first service and I rode my TLR there. Well, my buddy that works there brought the GSXR home for me. On the way, we did a few blasts down the backroads to see how they compared. My TLR would hang with the GSXR up to 130. Beyond that we ran out of road.
I have no problem hanging with a current gen liter bike on my TLR. Keep in mind though that my TLR is probably about as modified as you'll find one that's not in the Yoshimura collection, so it's not really indicative of most of what's out there.

Sorry, I forgot how easy it is to fudge dyno numbers...my bad. I never said it was my bike with those numbers...but its the net, assumptions are made as fast as sarcastic comments. I have read a number of articles and seen dyno sheets of a Yosh pipe boosting power to 115 before mapping or any other intake/ehxaust mods...but any one can argue that dyno figures can be fudged, by the way...thats over 25% increase with just exhaust...but thats just ridiculous...right?

dyno sheet right here full yoshi exhaust power commander custom mapped, 105 at the rear wheel. Ill upload the sheet if i must. But i will agree it is quite easy to mess with dynos.

not only that but different dynos will give you different numbers. two different people could get different numbers. tire pressure, new tire or old, compound...lots of variables.

Yes...Dyno numbers are ridiculously innaccurate, but would that not work to all bikes, all makes and all mods? I think the arguement is stupid...but its also stupid to call whole group of riders who try every possible way to upgrade a an old, out of date engine and wring the absolute last horsepower out of it in the least invasive-least expensive way possible...but thats about 75% of anyone who owns a bike/car.

Yea, we all have our pet arguments I guess. I was just looking at an Akrapovic ad and they claim only 7.8 hp with a full system on an R1... that's only about 5% and that's from arguably the best exhaust manufacturer there is! For the record, btw, a couple teams were racing TLRs around that time in AMA Superbike and getting their asses handed to them by 750s, I'm just saying...

The number I saw from a buddy and a UK tuner said the number they were closer to was 88-92 stock at the rear wheel, I also saw the increase was to 119 but I went with the lower number because of the variances in attendants and dyno varibles.

Oh okay... well anyway, the TLR is a great streetbike and they sound awesome with the Yosh pipes so I'm not sure what this is all about but claiming, by your numbers, a 60+ hp increase from a 90 hp bike... well, again that's pretty crazy but who knows? The mods are everything a person can do without cracking the block(Exhaust, TRE, Ignition, electrical and and so on...) which is really alot if you knew how choked and piss poor the electrical and intake/exhaust are on this bike stock. It does look like a huge jump and seems improbable, but if you own one or have spent a lot of hours doing these mods, it is possible to get a good amount of power from the mods that have been worked out for this bike.

another thing about it is that I find it really hard to believe that the manufacturer would put something out with such an intentional handicap when just a few changes could have made it much better.
the instructor that taught the Dyno class had worked for SpuerTrapp designing exhaust, he said it was usually very hard to get any improvement over the stock exhaust. materials to reduce weight was what he said was one of the things they could usually do.
I got a short ride on a TLR, thought it was great. that and an RC51 would be the only non Kawasaki (big 4 anyway) that I would like to own. you are right, they sound awesome. I got to hear an RC51 going around the track at Daytona several years ago at a practice session. don't know if awesome actually fits for that experience it was so good.

Arghh!!! I lost a post! I looked up dyno numbers from a couple sources and came up with 121 hp from a stock TLR so 135 hp isn't unreasonable and 150 hp would be "obtainable" with some head work and a bit of a massage...

The TL engine was fugged by Suzuki, I think the engines they sold to Bimota and some others even made in the area of 120 rear wheel, but I am not sure. Just the airbox mods were shown to improve the power by almost 15% if I am remembering correctly.

ok but you do understand why I'm having problems believing that. more power sells, winning races sells, winning at the local drag strip sells, they know this. they spent a lot of money to develop and produce them, why would they take one of it's balls off when it goes into production?

The potential of an engine is almost never achieved when its rushed into production and thrown into a package. Between the restrictive exhaust, smog ports, stupid exhaust valves, airbox that barely let it breathe and a charging/electrical system that could barely light a fart, the potential was there. The reason the mods are so effective is because they had to do so much to choke it to sell it. Also, I have never seen(until lately) a factory put out a WSBK or MOTO GP horsepower bike for the general public. The engine in the TLS was the same, but down in horsepower, so detuning an engine is not that crazy to imagine. Here is a number a lot of the guys I read quoted I cant fint the stock dyno sheets from all those years ago. Not a dyno sheet, but a british magazine with crank numbers and after Yosh pipes...

Honestly though..
The manufacturer of my exhaust claims 105 at the wheel with it. The bike only makes 103 at the crank.
I know that they're full of shit about it. They just ran the dyno until it said what they wanted to see.
I've heard of bone stock 1000s dynoing 190 at the wheel. That doesn't make it so..
A base line run, then a run with the mods is the only way to know for sure.
There's a guy right now on a buell forum who dynoed his bike at 65 to the wheel. Everybody else claims to have 85 to 90. Who's right? They both aren't. There's so much descrepancy between dynos that having the wheel sit on the drum wrong can lower or raise your numbers by a lot.
But, a twin 1000 from 10 years ago putting down comparable numbers to a new i4 1000 with just minor mods is very very hard to believe.
TommyHotWheel
06-29-2009, 12:06 PM
The numbers we are getting with our 10 year old, highly modified bikes are no where near a new I-4 liter and even some 600s make more power, but noone said we were getting those numbers. We are talking about sizable gains without an engine teardown or machine work because the engine was not released with the ability to make power to its full potential. If you knew how far these guys went to come up with these minioscule mods and crazy, feverish and rabid love of these bikes, you would see how they squeeze every bit out of these engines.
there can be a difference in numbers on the same dyno between bike numbered 101 and 102. tightness of bearings ect...

Thats why as a general rule, I use an average or the smaller number. I will try to get some links, they stopped working for me too.
Here is a dyno run by sport rider that I believe was way high, but then it would also show that a bump up to 150 HP is not as far fetched as some would believe.

Okay! I can't figure you out! Do you think it's possible or not? I posted numbers that claim 121 hp at the rear wheel which makes 135 hp VERY possible and 150 hp "attainable". I think you are looking at TLS numbers or something when you post "88-92 hp numbers. TLRs routinely made "around" 120 hp out of the box.
Oh and to answer someone's question as to why they would "neuter" a bike.... PLS-"post litigation syndrome", Suzuki got raped after a couple guys lost it on that bike in Europe, so they "cut off one of it's balls" before exporting it here. They also added a steering stabilizer. They did something similar to the GSXR1100.
Manufacturers throw away horse power all the time, for safety reasons, drivability, to make a MPG number, to make emission tests, to save money on more expensive parts/manufacturing processes, etc. The bottom line is that with the original numbers you were using, I would say no fucking way could you get those results with "bolt-ons" but now that I have more "accurate" starting numbers, I don't see why a guy couldn't see those kinds of peak hp numbers taking into account dyno variations, etc.:idk:
TommyHotWheel

I didnt think I was being vague, just stating that 150 is very possible. I also think that people are unaware of the amount of and scope of the mods to this engine that can be done without cracking the block. I used a smaller number because the sheets I have seen tend to be in the 88-92 range, and I do believe there were a few TLS in there. Believe me, I was stunned myself when guys started posting and showing such gains with the mods that can be done, but I have seen them and if I dynod my bike, I would be surprised if it was not in the 130ish range.
