I think it went well, but won't know anything for a month, maybe more. Gov't position, which is why it will be so long before finding anything out. Should start on Aug 31st, if selected and it will pay about 2-3k more than I'm making now, with the benefit of gov't pension, benefits, etc. It would also get me back to a normal work week, which will have it's pros and cons, but at least it's in my home town and I won't have a 1.5 hour drive to work.

Im with you on the waiting for govt jobs. Thats all Ive been applying for and just started hearing back from a few after about a month or two for each. Of course mine would more than double my income since I still work retail for the time being...

Having just started a Gov't job 6 weeks ago...I can tell you that it is GREAT. And I took a 21% pay raise over TV news.

The house is probably where he's been.

Thanks all. House is going slow, been spending time with the little one, working for my dad and playing poker, just trying to get some money put together to get some stuff done to the house and save up for a bike.

As for saving gas money, I'm not sure how much I'll save. I'll be driving my car for part of the work, but will get reimbursed for mileage. Maybe I'll take all my "mileage money" and put it into a bike fund if I get the job. Need to remodel the garage before I get a bike though, as it's just a one car, but there is extra storage space behind it, but no way to get a bike in there yet.

I'll be hit and miss on here, but will keep you posted.

Oh, and after looking through some of the threads, I feel like this: :whosr:

Brother, you have more excuse for not buying a bike than anyone I've ever heard.

 My only real excuse is money. Once I get the money (without raiding my retirement), I'll have a bike. Besides, the "remodel" on the garage won't take much work at all. I can get that shit done in a few hours. All it will take is a header board, a couple studs to hold up the header, then taking a sawzall to the wall. I'm really waiting on the money to buy a bike.

Hell, I've made it through 2 of the 3 steps I need. Bought the house and got out of debt (with the exception of the house). Now it's just a matter of saving up for the bike I want (I'm not going into debt again for anything).

Received a conditional offer of employment today. Pay would be 2k above what I'm making now. Not much, but still better. Not to mention I'll have about a 5-10 minute drive to work instead of an 80-90 minute drive. Woohoo!! Job will start at the end of August. Just have to go through background check.

Thats great!! Not to mention, the money you'll save on gas too!! So technically its better than a 2k raise!

I hope so. Like I said, just waiting on money...

Yep. Plus, heard from a friend of mine in a gov't job that you get automatic raises within the first year, which moves you up two pay grades. If this is true, I'll be making another 8k per year by Sept of next year. THAT will be sweet and will be the money I need to get a bike!!!!

That's awesome, congrats!!!!!! Hell, even at the same pay rate, to get those hours of your LIFE back (and the gas savings), it's more than worth it!!! YAYYYY!! Good luck with the new position!

Ah, the start of the gov't process. Loads of paperwork to fill out and had to go get fingerprinted and get pic taken for id. Closest location to get it done was an hour away. I was there for a whopping 15 minutes.
