I am looking at buying an 05 kawi and was needing some opinions as I haven't owned a kawi ever! :idk:

Wait for the post whore supreme who goes by Ebbs. He rides one.

I have owned a 250 and have ridden a 98 Kawi ZX9R for a season or two and never had any big problems with them.

This link may help...(look around this site a bit)

As for Kawis in general, I have only good things to say. Mine's 13 years old, over 42K miles on it, and is a daily rider. No major problems ever, and still a ton of fun to ride.

The ZZR is a great all around bike (I very seriously contemplated them for a long time). Comfortable, great for commuting or longer rides, quick enough, but not SUPER zippy (but that has a lot to do with the rider -- I know a girl who's ridden the shit out of her 05 ZZR600 at Jennings on many occasions).

Is this your first bike, an upgrade (and if so, what are you coming from)...?

I rode ebbs' bike once... pretty good zip, but he's got it geared, piped and tuned too.

Eh, they're ok. If it's cheap, I'd say go for it. The biggest drawback is you're getting a carb'd bike. It's based on the 98-02 ZX6R, so it's a ten year old design, which makes it heavy by 600 standards. My recommendation? Find an '03 or newer ZX6R, '01 or newer GSX-R600 (this is what I have), '01/'02 F4i '03 or newer 600RR, or an '03 or newer R6 or R6S. All of those are Fuel Injected (and actually, the '96 and up GSXR750 is FI too) and would be worth the difference.

I'd take a carb'd pinto over a GSXR of any kind. :nee:

I have an '02 ZX6R, which is essentially the same bike. I love it. Sure, I'd love to have the latest, greatest 375lb bike, but the ZX6R/ZZR600 does everything well. I've done everything from long trips to a track day on it. So what if it has carbs; in 18,000 miles, it has run flawlessly for me. I do a lot of routine maintenance myself, and never had a bit of trouble with it. My middle-aged old bones still can curl up nicely on it, too, as it's quite roomy for a sportbike. I'd seriously consider it.

1500! DAMN that's a fuck'n outstanding price!? not to be rude... but what's wrong with it?! I got mine in EARLY 06 for 4999 (+a 500 Arai helmet thrown int) and THAT was a steal.

I LOVE my bike... it's got all the zip I need... I've got a 4* ignition advance, Full system muzzy exhuast, jet kit, K&N, and went -1T in the front and +2 in the rear... fucker will give any new model 600 a run for it's money(usually take it)from a rolling start to 100... (I'm horrible at launches... but I'm no dragster)

The carbs SHOULDN'T give you any issues... I lived in AK and never had a problem with cold starts...

you will notice under 25... you'll want to use the clutch to smooth out the throttle responce as it's extreemly jerky...

if you have the stock dunslops on there... GET RID OF THEM... they'er HORRIBLE!

replace the headlights with either PIAA bulbs or HID... makes a big diffrence... but either way... you'll LOVE the dual lows and highs... (on coming people you flash will hate you)

what I love about my bike is it's all day comfort... I'm still a very new rider but I pulled 4hr trips EASY... with just a little soreness in my back and wrists...

The guy that had it laid it down and it scared him up pretty good. He said he wanted it out of his garage. I had someone check it out for me. He rode it and said all was fine, just cosmedics. At that price I couldn't say no.

My buddy's girlfriend got an 07 ZZR600. It was a very smooth bike and fun to ride. Didn't feel like it had as much punch as my F3 and didn't feel like it handled as well as my F3. But a good looking bike which I think is the best looking sportbike out there. If I could cram a ZX-6r or 10r motor in there and I'd be in business.

It is carbed which you should be use to.

As for dependability. I think that Honda/Kawasaki/Yamaha/ and Suzuki are all going to be fairly equal. Sure each company will have their specific problems that they are notorious for. But the big mechanical stuff (Motor,tranny,carbs/Fi,etc) seem to be strong with all the big Jap 4.
