With a little luck, the SS variant will pump a little adrenaline into the rather anemic styling...but any excuse to bring in a rear-drive V-8 Holden gets my "thumbs up". Go Bob.

total fail. if they revive the caprice, at LEAST make it look like the old school model, not this new aborted fetus of a fetus. this further proves what I've known for awhile. GM is shit.

Aren't you an angry little man. :lol

The G8 may be a little bland in the exterior styling dept, but the interior, chasis, and engine more then make up for it. To call a 6.0L sedan an aborted fetus is a bit far fetched.

But who is really going to be motivated to buy it if it doesn't look good? Performance isn't enough, IMO.

See this is the problem with Chevy. They produce boring-looking stuff.

They'd have been a lot better off if they just took the existing G8 and rebadged it, without any styling changes. The G8 looks alot better than this turd.

I think I can answer this because I'm kinda in this class right now. My wife and I decided we want a full size car, rear wheel drive, with a V8 and four doors. So what are our options?

Caddy CTS ( only the CTS V with an 8cyl / too expensive )
Dodge Charger/300
Ford Crown vic (not an option / hate it)
BMW 5 series (too expensive)
Pontiac G8 GT

I am not an enthusiast and this car will be for my wife. After driving our 2.0L mazda PR5 for the last 6 years we want some more engine. The fuel economy for V6 engines is literally 1mpg better then their v8 counterparts for most brands with highway mileage occasionally better due to cylinder management systems.

I'm with ya though. We may be the minority as everyone is looking for the most fuel efficient cars out there. My wife's commute is 10 miles a day, literally nothing. The primary function of this car will be the family ride. So why not have some fun?

Get a used 2008 or newer Caddy STS V-8 or even V-6. These cars are tight as hell.

Before I bought my 2008 STS, I test drove an Impala SS, Pontiac GT, G6, G8 (V-6 tho) and the Caddy was just night and day difference in build quality and ride. It is most refined car I've ever driven and the hands down the best powertrain combo (and I've driven a shitload of BMWs and Benz').

Corsica\Baretta were ok when they came out.
Friend had a (maybe 2.2? I think it was a 90')4banger Corsica. Thing took a ton of abuse and neglect but it still started and made the hour 3 trip from Albany to Long Island 2-3 times a month. Thought it was a nice looking series at the time

The thing about that car was the front seats...dear lord of the sock drawer did they suck.

The Barreta GTU and GTZ's were decent.

I would have to assume only to those who don't know how to drive.

Make mine rear drive please. It's not that I haven't learned to make a front drive car hustle around corners...but it's not pretty, and it's no fun.

The Camaro SS still has the V8, the Z28 package was a higher performance version of the v8.

Either way, the new camaro is ugly as feck.

It looks like GM gave a room full of five year olds sugar, and crystal meth, then made them watch Power Rangers for 24 hours straight. Then they showed them a pic of a nice 69 camaro, and asked how they could make it look better. they took a meth break first of course.

Camaro SS + 6spd manual = busted output shaft.

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/13/breaking-early-camaro-ss-manual-transmission-failures-reported/

Eric Bryant :

Hmm. I’d like to know if the Camaro uses the same 27-spline output shaft version of the trans that was used in 4th-gen F-bodies, or the 32-spline version that was utilized in the SSR. If it’s the former, then yeah, they’re going to break like twigs (I have personal experience with this in a 4000+ lb car with 400+ HP). If it’s the 32-spline version, then I would perhaps think that this is an issue with the quality of the output shaft and not a design flaw, as that should hold up to a lot more power than a stock SS can put down.

EDIT: Just saw a pic of a snapped output shaft. Looks like a 28-spline configuration (if I counted correctly while looking at an out-of-focus photo on a 10.1″ screen). That seems a bit inadequate for a car that weighs nearly 4000 lbs and puts nearly 400 HP to the rear wheels. But the surface of the broken part looked glassy-smooth, and didn’t seem at all like a properly-manufactured part that was overloaded. If I had to guess, this is the result of a material or manufacturing problem.

z06boy
07-14-2009, 09:48 AM
Output shafts are/were a weak link in the C5 Z06. I'm not sure about the C6 Z06.

When I had the 3:90's installed I had hardened outbut shafts installed as well.

I never broke one but did it "just in case". :idk:

The problem is a manufacturing issue with a batch of Tremec 6060 transmissions, which are not made by GM. I'd still rather have an auto. I'm tired of shifting the manual in my car...

BTW the new Caprice is a no go as of last week (from what I heard).
