View Full Version : Look Ma, No Cane!!

HurricaneHeather

No more cane for me. :D

I can walk like a normal human.....kinda. I still have a wicked limp.

My right hand has no idea what to do while I'm walking. I found myself carrying everything in my left hand this morning until I realized that I have another hand that doesn't have anything to do anymore!!

So, who in Austin is going to the Saucer with me to celebrate? :dribble:

A few of my friends were talking about going to the Saucer tonight for the trivia. I wasn't sure if I was going to go but I could be easily persuaded.

I need to run home after work and hit the gym but I could be there by 7:30.

LOL. Thanks for the tip. I've broken a few, or 25.
That just seems like a long recovery to me.

But congrats on getting off! I have logged too many miles on crutches and canes. Not a big fan

Sorry, it's become an immediate reaction....you have no idea how many times I have had to hear people ask, "why are you still walking with the cane?"

It gets on my friggin nerves.

I've been there, could not even walk for 4 months, bedridden for two.

Congrats, when is your first ride?

Yeah, 4 months from surgery to walking on my own is pretty fast. No cast, no wheelchair. Pretty amazing.

My dad is talking about getting a turbo busa for the Texas Mile (texasmile.net) in October. That might be my most realistic option. That makes sense right? Making my 'first' ride a turbo busa.

No to further irritate you, and not trying to make assumptions but pushing rehab helps tremndously. I broke my right knee cap in half, spilt my leg wide open, severed the pateller tendon, and partially tore my PCL right before race season. As a result of the injury and subsequent surgery I had little flexibility (was supposed to be in a locked out knee brace for 4 weeks and no walking) and my quad muscle had zero function. I told my surgeon I had a race 8 weeks to the day from the injury and he laughed. 4 weeks later I walked into rehab, and 4 weeks after that I brought them a pic of my dragging that knee at my race.

I didn't have rehab or physical therapy.

I asked about PT when I left the hospital and the PT Trainer shrugged his shoulders and said, 'you probably don't need it.'

Yesterday when I saw the ortho he says, 'you can walk without the cane. Just don't go running or jumping or trying out for the Spurs.' Dream crushing bastard.

It feels GOOD to walk again after an injury, eh?...I shattered my hip socket in 2005...didn't walk for 3 months...didn't walk without a limp for 3 months after that.

Congrats Heather!

How much longer until the limp goes away?

Well, the doctor said that once it stops hurting to walk I have no reason to limp anymore. It still hurts and my muscles are very weak, so I'll be limping because of that for a while. Since I haven't walked normal 4 months I have to retrain myself to walk normally. So, to answer your question, I have no idea.

So, um, is there any chance that Tech will let me run my Busa down the mile with the hardbags on? :D

Oh c'mon! The brackets are bolted on in 3 places on each side, and the bags use a positive lock system to close and to latch onto the brackets!

Besides, how humiliating would it be for some of them slower Busas to have a Busa with *hard bags* run a better time/speed down the mile. :D

C'monnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Pwetty pwease!

We'll see.

Adding lugggage as a seperate item might get vetoed by the head of tech because it would fall under 'no loose items'.

If it's secured, I'd probably let you go.

Are you really coming? Don't tease me if you're not.

They're not loose! I've tested them to 170 already. I'd lift the bike up by the bags. I'm that confident in them!

Get me a slot *with* my bags, and I'm there! :)

As my physical therapists told me, try your best to walk without a limp as it's better for your back and hips.

It's not like a switch is turned and you don't have the limp anymore but it is something to work on.

Once again, congrats on your personal milestone :rockwoot:
