I am thinking of getting a website started soon but know absolutely nothing about it.

I found the domain I want and it is open, but after I buy it, then what? Are there websites that you can get generic backgrounds and styles and such?

I don't need anything fancy, just something to display images and text and if possible set up so people can do paypal.

Help?

do you have the server space already?
You have to purchase that as well

if you want to do it yourself check out joomla, pixie, or wordpress

We use homestead.com - but it's a pay site. It started free, which is why I went with them to begin with. Very easy to use.

I would pay for your domain name asap. I had one I wanted to use for my business and I checked a few times to make sure it was still available. When I went to get it someone bought it and made one of those fake looking search sites. Seems like someone is using domains that have been searched before.

That's who I use. Costs me $5 a month to have my site up there. Free to create it, $5 to have 'em host it. I bought my name from GoDaddy for $9 and they simply masked it for me for free.

Okay sweet. Thanks for the info. I guess I needed to know how to host it and it looks like homestead does that. :dthumb:

Cee, do you have the option have people pay on your site?
