I think the same marketing people that are responsible for there being seventy thousand different wines on the market suckered y'all, creating an elitist subculture wherein anything that is popular and inexpensive MUST suck (I mean, nobody sells a hundred million units a year of anything that's any good)...

And so you pay more for a "premium" product with a long name and limited distribution, and wax rapturous with other sophisticated palettes about all the subtle ways in which it doesn't taste exactly like the million other drinks made with the same ingredients.

Tho at least beer drinkers are a little more with it than coffee drinkers, since you don't fall for all that hippy "free-trade" shit :lol

First off beer is an acquired taste. When you were 5 years old and you sipped on your dads beer I'm sure you didn't like it. So you'd drink a little more and several years all the sudden you think it's good. I was the same way until I got a taste for real beer when I moved to Seattle.

Redhook for example is a brand that is gaining huge amounts of popularity and their beer is good. It's fairly inexpensive too as is Sam Adams. There is no elitist attitude about it. We just like better beer. Were not better people than you because we drink a better beer, we just enjoy the finer things in life. If a friend offers me a free beer, I'll drink it and won't complain but if I'm paying, you bet your ass I'm buying something good.

Why is it better beer? Because you or some beer critic rates it high? It's all opinion. If someone enjoys a fucking pabst as much as you enjoy a $20 micro brew, why exactly is it better? It's beer, stop trying to make it into wine.

I'm not he's the one who started it not me. I don't give 2 shits if you want to buy pabst. Who the fuck is making it into wine? Same could be said about your motorcycle.. it just a bike for gods sake, why get a BMW? Same thing. YOU are buying the bike because you like it. That's all. I agree, I am not saying you are one of these people. There are some people around here that have made it that way. If you find a good beer to enjoy that's fine. You didn't start the whole micro brew vs mass debate I know, but I just find that stuff funny around here.

As for the BMW, hell yeah I want to play the elitism card. It's the first time I will have something I can be elitist about, I WANT IN ON THE FUN CLUB! LOL....

I don't consider my appreciation for micro brews to be an elitist thing. :idk:
I've had my share of bulk beer and now simply choose beers with more distinct, less "common denominator" type flavors. (notice, I didn't say 'lowest')
If you can't taste the difference, or it simply doesn't matter enough for you to spend a little more on them, that's your choice.

Plus I think that people that have never had a micro brew are unaware that large difference in flavors you can obtain with just a change here and there.

Once you make your own beer and get familiar with the brewing process, you tend to experiment a little to get that perfect recipe that you love.

Not at all really. I cant stand beer, but I know that a beer such as Sam Adams is going to be significantly "better" (define as you will) than something like Natty light or Coors. (You can smell the difference.)

Men especially drink what they see their dads drink. They grow up with it and think its great because they dont know better. My hubby and his dad are prime examples. His dad has always been a Bud Light guy, and up until the hubby started traveling the world and trying new beers, he didnt know what was out there. Now, he'll drink cheap crap if offered, but if he's spending money on beer, its usually something no one else has heard of or the more expensive in the coolers.

I even try them on occasion, and while I still hate beer, I can kinda appreciate the flavor differences and the quality differences.

I know not everyone who drinks wine does it out of pretention...but a few people that may or may not be in my extended family may or may not be complete wine snobs and I may or may not hate these particular people. So my complete distaste with the whole culture may or may not be all their fault.

Brewing ids a hobby to some people. There is nothing elitest about it. You keep using that term and I have no idea why. Just because you choose to drink shit beer everyone does? Now that you own a BMW everyone should ride a BMW? It's not all about YOUR opinion.

Discussions about beer happen because we have the same interest in it. Nobody is forcing you to drink premium beer and I won't make fun of you because of it. Like I said before, beer is an acquired taste for everyone. Most people however drink cheap beer because it is less flavorful and takes less time getting used to. I never said brewing was elitist and said it was fine to discuss brewing it if you actually did do that. I am making fun of the people who sit around and discuss a beer as if it were a wine. If you want to brew a beer and get a certain taste in it, sure talking about it is required. If you are some douche with no intention to ever of brewing and start using "in the know" terms to make you sound like a sophisticated beer drinker, I am going to continue to blast the ever living shit out of you.

I don't drink cheap beer since college. When I drink beer, it is mostly micro brew. I still feel the way I do about it. Most "Piss" beer is as carefully brewed to give that taste and the recipe is as cared for more closely than 90% of the micro brews.

Well said, brewing is like other hobbies, most are very helpful but you have a few tools, just that we like different beer and by brewing we can make beers similar to what we drink and try different things. I had a lot of fun brewing way back when and now wit the internet I have more resources and can share with more people.

So...unless I'm a brewer, I have no business talking about how something tastes?
Is it like the "guys only see 16 colors" thing, except since I'm a beer layperson I can't describe how something tastes with anything more than sweet, sour, bitter, salty, etc?
You don't dig the pretentiousness of it all... good for you... but the ability to appreciate something and a desire to talk about it with like-minded people is hardly grounds to go bustin' balls :nee:

. Most "Piss" beer is as carefully brewed to give that taste and the recipe is as cared for more closely than 90% of the micro brews.

You're right about this. It takes careful monitoring and exhaustive quality control to ensure a consistent product when you're dealing with multi-million gallon batches. But consistent does not equal better. McDonald's has volumes of white notebooks full of standards for keeping the taste and quality of their food consistent as well. Doesn't mean I'm going to sit around talking about how their burgers taste because to me there's not much there worth talking about. :idk:

Is it like the "guys only see 16 colors" thing, except since I'm a beer layperson I can't describe how something tastes with anything more than sweet, sour, bitter, salty, etc?
You don't dig the pretentiousness of it all... good for you... but the ability to appreciate something and a desire to talk about it with like-minded people is hardly grounds to go bustin' balls :nee:

You're right about this. It takes careful monitoring and exhaustive quality control to ensure a consistent product when you're dealing with multi-million gallon batches. But consistent does not equal better. McDonald's has volumes of white notebooks full of standards for keeping the taste and quality of their food consistent as well. Doesn't mean I'm going to sit around talking about how their burgers taste because to me there's not much there worth talking about. :idk:

With less ingredients it's alot harder to fuck up , so yeah it would be more consistent.

You know, I probably should have changed my tone in that post.
I'm not defending beer, wine, coffee etc snobbery, but I'm saying that appreciation, preference, and discussion of a gourmet-grade product doesn't automatically make you a snob.

There is a difference between appreciating a good beer and the taste and being a pretentious asshat. It's obvious you understand that. You know the type I am referring too.

None of this changes the fact that I opened this thread expecting to see pictures of some hot model from South America or India, and it totally did not deliver. :td:

Nah, I'm on my days off right now so I slept last night.
I'm sticking to coffee this morning.

Honestly, after all this discussion, I'm afraid I'm going to have to watch my beer intake.
Got some not-so-great news from the Dr. yesterday :(

Nah, but I've had heartburn issues for a long time.
Prilosec is my friend.
Actually, no... my blood sugars were too high.
Gotta watch the carbs, get more active, and get some weight off pronto.

So does that mean you are on the verge of becoming diabetic? Or is that hypoglycemic? I forget which is which.

No worries there.
Aside from being diagnosed as a fat American, they didn't find anything wrong that couldn't be remedied by losing some weight and changing my diet a little.

And Rider, my numbers fell into the pre-diabetic category... but nothing that can't be fixed. I just have to make some changes.

Sounds like pre diabetic, hypo is low blood sugar which can also be bad too. Sounds like a little exercise and diet changes will do the trck for him.

That's what the Dr. said.
Follow up in 2-3 months. And yeah, I'm going to take it seriously.

Oh my job is grown up. They just treat us like adults and don't get too pissed if we have a beer at the base bar.

Of course, the rule is two beer per man per day perhaps..

Gotcha. We don't have a bar here in cubicle world and they don't treat us like adults either.

They just took away our trash cans. :skep:

They left our trash cans alone. They took away the people that take out the trash. Now we have to throw our own trash away in the dumpster....

We have garbage cans, we have people to empty the garbage cans(scaled back to 3x/week) but he have no admins.... we fired them all. It makes no sense. I'd rather have an admin that a garbage man.
