Thank you all for your thoughts and words.

Yeah.. Gramps was a great guy. He did a lot for his country (Army vet) and a lot for the disabled. He worked as a volunteer EMT for years, attending football games at the local schools "just to help out." He was always at the Red Cross giving blood, or donations. My brother reflected on a time he and my grandfather were listening to the scanner when there was a huge fire at a shopping center. Gramps went to McDonalds (this was probably back in 81 or so) and bought 150 burgers and took 'em to the firefighters. He was a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol (i remember him taking me to meetings at the airport in Lubbock).

He definately lived a life of servitude. The "professional" aspect of his life revolved mainly around helping the mental and physically disabled. I didn't know it until the memorial service that he had actually started working with the disabled back when he was still in highschool, volunteering his time to feed kids w/ special needs @ a state school in (or around?) Enid, Oklahoma. Later on he actually taught special needs kids and adults both educational and life skills (like, how to count money). He was a recipient of several awards for lifetime achievement, but never boasted or bragged. He loved football, and loved parades. You couldn't peel him away from the TV for the Thanksgiving or New Years Day parades.

He's who got me started on my Two Wheel Fix. When I was 4 (can't really remember it) he would take me for a ride on I think was a Gold Wing. Later he had a Zuke Intruder and we'd ride on that a bit (was 13 at the time). I'd been hooked on two wheels since then....

I've got a copy of the obit at the house in Alabama, I'll see if the SO can scan it and I can post it, it was writen beautifully.

He really was a great man. He was 73.
