Friday I got axed.
Been home less than 48 hours, and I'm going apeshit.
Laundry is done, weed eating's done, all floors have been vacuumed/swept/mopped, bathroom scrubbed, errands run. Now all I have to do is wait till tomm. to go to the unemployment office. :hitfan:
What do you people do all day for 6 months? The b/f's unemployed too, so a butt load of things will get done by the end of this week. I feel sorry for him. :hangman:

find a big project to do, I've gotten good at finding friends who have lots of random projects to occupy the mind.

When I was between positions in '03 I was not working for four months. Did allot of stuff outside to get me out of the house, basically. Went mountain biking, to the pool / beach, took the dogs for long walks, went for many rides on the bike, etc. I'd go meet friends for lunch allot. And the apartment was immaculate day in / day out for the whole time. Also made dinner for the wife (then GF) every night, did all the laundry, etc. If I didn't keep myself busy I would have gone insane.

That will be me. I can't sit in front of a box for weeks on end. Will keep an eye on Craigslist for free crap that I can landscape the yard with. Mother is coming to visit in a few days, will have the entire house spic and span before she gets here. :bonk:

Look for a job?
Yes, I will look for a job. Sad part is, unemployment pays more than what most employers are offering at the moment. I have 6 months to be kinda choosy.

Look for a job?
It only takes a couple of days to search and apply for all of the local jobs you are interested in, and also send out blind letters to companies in the area. After that, it's basically just 15-20 mins a day checking for new job listings, and touching base with recruiters. This was the case for me, anyway.
I had spent just over 3 months trying to alter my niche in my career path and gave up and started applying and interviewing for the usual network/system engineer type jobs.

I converted my backroom into a bicycle shop and taught myself how to work on bicycles. Even learned how to fix English internal 3-speed hubs. I'm out in the "shop" most of the day, I buy old bikes...make them super nice, and then sell 'em on Craigslist. Usually profit around $50 or so.

Awesome! I love hearing about people who take on new entrepreneurships.
If you could find a decent Tri or Road bike my buddy is looking for one since he started doing triathlons with me.

We have the tools and knowledge to fix motorcycles. Have 2 sitting downstairs right now, one we are waiting for the a-hole to pay up. Anyone want a 1985 GS550? Will sell everything but the frame.
Looked into buying salvaged bikes, but you must maintain a commercial storefront in the state of Kansas. And with the economy in the toilet, no one is spending money on toys. :(

Truth! I got laid off from a $20/hour job and most jobs around here are for $12 max. My unemployment is $405 plus the fact that I don't have the expense of working and a couple payments are made because of ins coverage. Heck, I'm better off in a lot of ways... It's weird!:idk:

Fuck a stranger or give your self a "stranger."
I would get off of unemployement as soon as possible. They hold that against you when you retire and claim on your social security checks.

Thats me right there! though the $12 hour jobs are hard to come by now since vegas is in the crapper.
I still can't find enough time to do everything! I just got an extension for 7 more months after being unemployed for 6, and then after that the Federal state benefits kick in.
What do i do all day long? I go out and play. Hang out at the parks, hiking, working out, rode when it was still cool enough, go away for the weekends, do a lot of stuff i wanted to do but couldn't due to time constraints of working and chores on the weekend.
I decided to get a 2nd degree. Always wanted to go back to school for nursing but between taking care of my dad and then paying bills after he passed, i didn't have the time.
So now its a lot of studying. Plus lots of extracurricular reading- everything under the sun. Making plans to start another business. When school ends next week, i'll have 3 weeks of free time before the fall semester, so i'll try to start learning a new language.
Though my expenses are low so i can live off unemployment, the only thing i don't have is extra money to travel more.
So much to do, so little time! I fee like i have been given the gift of time!
Enjoy your time off Fleck!

It's not like any of us are going to see any of that SS money we've been paying into all our lives when we're old enough....it will all be pissed away by then.

Plus with our wonderful socialized healthcare coming along we'll all die at 50 anyways.

Actually, it's all been pissed away already. :bash:

Hey, btw how much did your check go down when you got on the extended benefits? I'm coming up on that in 3 months and am wondering what I should do...:idk:
Oh and to the effect UE is going to have on any possible soc sec benefits... um, I've worked my entire life since I was 15 years old, not counting new paper routes, 50+ years by retirement age and you're saying that the gov't is going to penalize me for being on unemployment for 6 or so months?:idk: I'm sure that it just gets averaged into my pay in amount. Besides, Besides, who would lose $3/hour now to avoid losing $3 a month in 25 years?:idk:

none. I still get the full amount but for 130% of what my original amount was so this first time i got benefits for 22 weeks or so and this time it will be 28.6 weeks. after that the federal one kicks in at 13 weeks, same amount. So i am starting on the emergency unemployment benefits since its so bad here in vegas, and then after that would be the standard extension everyone will get which should be called the Federal state extension. It may vary from state to state depending on how bad it is.
Go call them, thats how i got the scoop, plus virtually everyone i know here that has been laid off is going on a year or more on benefits.

I got singed up for benefits, went grocery shopping, cleaned out the spare room, did 2 loads of laundry, cooked dinner and went to Red Box for the free Monday movie.
Tomm. I'll take the can of Never Dull to my 30 year old motor. It might take awhile.
