I have a number; don't use it. AT&T and Apple blocked the Google Voice app from being approved and are now being investigated by the FCC because of it.

I have push email, so I just have people text me at my email address, it works just as well.

Ha ha, you don't have an app for that. I saw that in the news and laughed my ass off.

I do that as well, but it's much simpler to just give people a number. Some people just can't wrap their heads around txting to an email address. The brains just about pop when you tell them to do that.

I've applied for a number. Hopefully the FCC forces apple to let us use google voice.

I have a Google Voice number. I love the voice-mail to text feature. You dont really need an app for GV, they have a mobile webpage that works very well. All the app does is let you call your GV number for making cheap international phone calls without having to dial it. You can still dial it manually and get the same result.

It's simple enough to jailbreak and use the app anyway. I just don't have much need for it. From what I hear, it doesn't have push text notifications anyway. You have to manually check for new texts. Gmail works better.

On a side note, Google has started granting google voice access to anyone with a .mil email address more quickly. They're claming a week turnaround if you register with a .mil email.

I finally got my invite for it this morning. I can't even remember when I filled out the application requesting it, it's been so long. Love the transcription feature; looking forward to using it.

The transcription is pretty worthless. But, sometimes you do get some hilarious transcriptions.

That feature seems useful to me because I can read the voice mails I get while I'm on my cell phone sitting in on a conf call, etc. while working from home or on the road.

It's really cool but does make mistakes... he's obviously an Apple guy.

That's fine. Just would be nice to be able to get the general gist and see if it's something important or something that can wait. Or perhaps something I can do/e-mail/etc. while sitting on the call.

I use my GV number as my local phone number when I need one, my cell still has a Palm beach area code.

Same here, works perfectly for that. If you're not sure what they said, the system will download to your sd card so you can listen to the message later without having to call your VM. I wouldn't trust it for brain surgery instructions but for day to day crap it's fine...
