I was actually engaged to Su, but it didn't work out simply due to distance. She is a cancer survivor, and needs constant medical follow up. She has great family support, and free, high quality healthcare in Brazil. I have a daughter in school, and must stay here, and seeing her only 2-3 times a year, and flying back and forth was becoming a strain.

Su is one of the greatest people I've ever known; smart, beautiful, talented. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life to let her go.

Surprisingly, I found my current GF (Monica) on MySpace, and she lived only a mile from my home here in Jackson.

Now, she's even closer...she lives with me.

Ah, the Brazilian slums. Yes, unlike here, where most poor live in the interior of the country. the poor there gravitate to the shore, where they set up shanty towns. Ironically, they settle on hillsides with spectacular views of the natural beauty of Brazil. They may be po, but they ain't dumb.

It's a big country, and there's a lot to do still, socially, in order to lift up ALL of its people...but Brazil has energy and economic independence (unlike here), and has actually become a significantly stronger economic power during this recent worldwide economic downturn.

...So yeah, there's a lot left to do, but Brazilians aren't afraid of social challenges. While this country sits around foolishly debating abstinence programs that don't work, Brazil hands out condoms, and saves lives. Despite being the largest Catholic nation in the world, they have the sense to know the difference between politics and religion, and they keep it real.

You don't see any PSAs here telling people to piss in the shower to save water do ya?

They have good weather, beautiful beaches, vast untapped natural resources, healthcare, good beer, awesome food, great music, and hot chicks.

The truth is, I really wanna live in California. Brazil is wonderful, and each time I go there, it comes closer to making we want to live there, but I've lived here since I am 5 years old, and I'm admittedly more Americanized than Brazilian.

The biggest factor is, though, that it's on the East coast of the continent, and suffers from the same high humidity that the East coast of the US does (where the humidity is currently kicking my ass). California is dry, and I have arthritis. There's fucking nothing in AZ, or I'd consider that...but given my health concerns, I'm thinking Cali.

A musician friend of mine keeps telling me I have to join him out there, and that "it's the place to be". I hope to go spend a few weeks out there soon, and size it up. I've only been there when I was on tour years ago, and I was working, and didn't get to see very much (although I did get to hang with the Van Halens).

California isn't that great like all would like it be. The good things are that you can split lanes, riding roads are great and the weather. The bad...shit is expensive (they take and you get nothing in return unless ur illegal or poor). Alot of crime and theft. The women think that are more then they are. Gangs (58 in LA alone). Overcrowded with Messicans and Asians that cannot drive!

But the riding roads are killer...its all worth it. LOL

That is the debt that was incurred since the early 90s.
in 1989 or 1990, brazil defaulted on a loan to Canada(US and other countries) that were never paid back. It was the equivalent of national bankruptcy. Brazil started over, and the debts they are paying back now are the ones that started in 1990. Unfortunately, it is hard to find news articles from that time period.

Agreed 100%!!! Same percentage for everyone is as fair as it gets! What many people want is for those that work harder and/or smarter, thus making more money, to pay a higher percentage. Absolutely unfair! I'll go along that below a certain point you don't have to pay any taxes but beyond that, we all pay the same percentage.

Example; if I make $10,000, I pay say $500, a $100,000= $5,000, a $1,000,000=$50,000 etc. The rich are still paying "more" than the poor. What's wrong with that?:idk:

You're generalizing because 50% of the taxes are paid by 1.3 million people (rich), while the remaining 135million who pay taxes pay the other 50%. While "a few" may pay 0..those paying 0 are simply using their buisness to purchase their living expenses.

To be honest though, I don't agree that these chicks should get paid for getting knocked up... I'm sorry but it's likely that the gov't (we) paid to feed and provide medical for the mother since the day after she got pregnant. Then we paid for the baby to be born and all if not most of their expenses, housing, food, medical, etc) since. Now if the chick works a few days/weeks out of a year, that the gov't (we) probably provided childcare and other incentives (more $$$) for her to do so, the gov't (we) will cut this bitch a check for thousands of dollars when she probably made less than $3000 flipping hamburgers for a month and paid zero taxes on... Yea that sounds fair to me...:panic: NO ONE should ever get back more than they paid in regardless of the circumstances!!! IMHO
