View Full Version : New Goodies
Well I am already attempting to make it properly muddy by riding some gravel roads
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/gs/DSC00002.jpg
Picked up some new stuff today since I gots some b-day money
Got the adv beak cause I liked it better
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/gs/DSC00007.jpg
Gave it a bath and looks all shiny again, forgot to take the damn shop towels off the seat, doh

Then I took a little ride over to the fine folks at Dual Sport Touring. Francois and Megan are good people and I highly recommend a visit if you are in town or look em up on the webz at www.dualsporttouring.com

They were ever so kindly to let me purchase one of these fine Shoei Hornets from their store. It's not much to look at now, but once I start adding some stickers as I go along, it will look much better. For now, I am working with an empty canvas waiting for vinyl.

I wish you'd stop tempting the rest of us with the ADV bike.
I'd love to have one....a pup tent....some basic camping supplies....gear the bike up on a Thursday night....and ride out into the Flint Hills of Kansas Friday night after work....ride home again sometime Sunday. It would be AWESOME.
Jealous? Me? Nope...not a bit. :lmao:
Definitely ebbs
Ks, best decision I have made. I want to marry this bike.

I think it is sweet although the silver 800 had my eye for the DS role. Alas I will have to live vicariously thru you as I am married to the asphalt for at least 48 months. At least I hope to stay on the asphalt...

What's the advantage to the beak?
Looks good though. I have been watchin LWR so I have a new found respect for those bikes!

none, just looks better to me. I guess it protects the paint from rocks and stuff. Kinda like the leather bra thing for the harley. Wasn't expensive, so I got it.

I noticed LWD and LWR they had it on thiers.
Question... why is it on the LWD they had constant rear shock problems? Bad redesign on the rear shock?

The GS adventure comes with it standard. The standard GS doesn't have it, you have to add it.
They loaded the bike down way too much without getting aftermarket shocks made for it. Thats why the frame kept breaking on LWR.

Yeah but what about the rear shocks on LWD? They didnt hv a problem on LWR but all assudeen on LWD they just keep breaking them!
Quality issues I suppose. The LWR bikes (R1150GS adv) are a different gen than the LWD bikes (R1200GS adv).

Yeah it just seems like the second bikes had a rear shock issue...

the problem they had in LWD was because of the HEAT and the weight. they didn't learn from LWR about packing light... and with all the heat and constant bumps it blew out the rear shock.

But that's BS. They only had the 3 tourmaster bags with a pop up tent on it.

loaded down with a lot of shit. remember they had all that camera equipment for the bike only portions.
who knows... could be a bad design... or just bad luck :idk:
The 05-06 GS's had a lot of rear shock failures all around. The 05-06-07 had a lot of quirky issues, some of which were inherited with the 08-09 and some were fixed.

04 was the LWR bike, the 1150. 05 was the first year for the 1200. Different bikes.

OIC... well I hope they get their old bikes back for the next one. I throughly enjoyed the series. TNX. It makes me want to run the entire US coast... It would be epic!!
They will probably get the next gen bike for the next one. 2010 is suppose to have a new boxer 1250 or 1300.

Dunno... from the rumors I read... they were supposed to be shooting LW UP this year... coming from South Africa to California and maybe up to Alaska.
I hope they finish up in AK... they really cut out a lot in LWR when they hit AK. and they'll have Death Vally, Yosemite, 101, Red Woods, Crater Lake, Mt Hood, The Oregon Coast, Mt St. Hellens, Banif National Park, all on their way after Leaving Mexico...
maybe not as historic for humans as the bone church or the astronomical clock they kept forgetting the name of... or the Roman ruins they had on LWD.. but it's natural beauty...

My friend bought a Suzuki 650 V-Strom, same color as your GS. Nice bike, but the best thing he also got was a DVD on dual/sport riding techniques by these guys: http://dualsportriding.com/. I thought it was excellent.

We saw a 1200GS a couple weeks ago....my dad won't stop talking about it now.
He thinks he wants one.
I think he wants a race bike.
He's probably not going to get either.
Yeah it just seems like the second bikes had a rear shock issue...
Just rewatched LWD, it wasn't BMW shocks that failed. They replaced the shocks when they first got the bike. They show them when they replace em, that was Ohlins stuff that fucked up. That was a lot of money they killed on their suspension.

There is an unbelievably twisty canyon road nearby that used to be a gravel road, but is now nicely paved. It goes over a pass and then steeply and twisty down to a park. The bad part is that they didn't pave the other side of the pass down to the park. We have to backtrack all to way around to get to the park.
No one I know has been down that road on a motorcycle. We debated about going up the gravel side, but the road has washboard ruts, and pea-size gravel that is just like ball bearings. My friend just bought a V-Strom, but he doesn't want to try it. Have you done any steep gravel roads with the GS?

Nothing real bad as my tires aren't good for gravel, still got the stockers on it. Going to get some tourrances next because they are suppose to be better than the stockers. There are guys that go full on dirt with GS bikes, so it's definitely capable. They make a good knobby for it.

Missed that... would have to re-watch the setup.

Well I watched some more, the first ones were ohlins that Ewan and Claudio broke, the spares they put on on were BMW. So the second one Claudio broke was a BMW shock. So two ohlins were destroyed and one BMW. Charlie stayed with Ohlins the whole way, Ewan ended up with his first BMW, and Claudio broke both. Claudio probably had the most equipment and was riding the hardest for most of the ride because he had to get in front of them to set up for the shots.

yeah, he wrecked his bike a lot. I got a feeling he was pushing it a lot harder than charlie and ewan though.
