Ok, I know this usually turns into an either-or topic but still wanted to get everyone's opinion on these things.

There have been a large number of bikers killed this year in my area (on average of almost one per night :eek: which in my sparcely populated area is quite a bit) due to idiotic drivers (the most common being, of course, the left hand turn in front of a rider followed by "but I didn't SEE them!").

Tonight on the news, after reporting on yet another couple of riders killed by maniac cage drivers, they did a story about Headlight Modulators and how they make a motorcycle more visible.

My wife now wants me to get one.

Thoughts, impressions, etc?

Can't use them at night. Its illegal.

The only legal modulators are ones that have daylight sensors so they don't work at night.

But their gay so just keep em on the goldwings

I'm torn on them. during the day, they're EXCELLENT items to increase your visibility. its like putting a giant neon green flag on your bike.

They're extremely irritating during the day, which means you see it, which means you ARE SEEN. eliminating the "I didnt see him" excuse.

at night, nothing will help like safe riding habits.

The problem isn't increase of visability, but rather increase of motorcycle approaching speed and location. Anything that is bright or blinks makes it harder IMO.

Headlights are just fine. Learn how to swerve.

I think they create a nice bullseye for target fixation... they're like deer whistles, you only know when they don't work. :wink:

Around here headlamp flashes means " you can go ahead and turn"

I just ride with my brights on durring the day... and at night... change lane position frequently and quickly. a little push and pull on the clipons will cause my lights to "flash" cause of the cut off the HID's have.

get a reflective vest and be hyper vigilant... that's about all you can do at night.

Exactly.

You'll just end up with small children stuck to the front of your bike.
