I finally have a computer again!!! I broke down and bought a Macpro....tax free.:rockwoot:
I really wanted it when I went to Sturgis but that didn't happen. So now I have it for the month I have out west.
So as soon as I can figure this thing out I'll get pics up.

and before long you'll get so pissed with that cheap pile of circuitry that you just HEAVE it across the yard into oncoming traffic and crack open a beer as trucks smash it. then you'll probably get a decent computer.

I will never own a Dell...I have heard TOO many bad things about them. Mac FTW.

You are one of the few people that this is acceptable due to your profession.

Dells are purposely made to fail after 3 years or so of use. If you open up their laptops the air plenums that provide the cooling air are made with very small openings for the air to flow through.
With that said, I have a Dell laptop and it was so cheap that if I get 3 years out of it, I'll be happy. PC's and laptops are throwaways now just like DVD players and digital cameras.

We've had nothing but good experiences overall with ours.

Just like I won't pay over $2k for a mac laptop that will be obsolete just as quickly as a much less costly PC and just as stable as an ubuntu laptop.

so mod the case, my gateway m500 came out before they realised how serious the heat issues were in desktop replacement laptops. Needless to say my intake and exhausts are whored out.

If thats your perogative thats fine. I know that with my money I will never buy a Dell. I hear nothing but bad things about them. I personally know several people with Dell laptops and every goddamn one of them is a broken down piece of shit.

Walk into any computer repair store..... they are LOADED to the gills with Dell laptops that aren't worth fixing. Not sure if they are really more prone to breakdown or the number of units sold are that much more than the competition but I've seen with my own eyes, stacks and stacks of Dell laptops at the repair store but at any rate, the tech there told me to avoid Dell at any cost. He pushed Toshiba as far as reliability.

My work laptop is a dell. It's a government laptop so it's like 5 years old and will probably go another 5 years before I get a new one. No issues. I wouldn't buy a dell laptop either though. I am not a fan of laptops though, build my own desktops. I wouldn't mind a small netbook running ubuntu. Not as bulky. I can't see owning one of those 19"+ laptops, just ridiculous for a laptop.

I've been looking at laptops too...netbooks are too small, I thought I wanted a 17" but they are just too damn big.

My home lappy is a 17 and my work lappy is a 15.4. There really isn't much difference in the viewing area but the 17 is soo much more heavy and bulky.
For traveling the 15.4 is perfect. My next home lappy will be a 15.4.
