Nobody's ever seen the movie "Fido"? Damned zombies in the barn work for old dude. Fetch sticks, retrieve ducks he's shot, 'n stuff.

I'm kinda diggin' the zombie mosh pit in the barn. But this just means they will escape and kill the people that locked them in there.

FWIW If I were in this situation, I would gather up a few zombies and see how long they can survive without food.... Perhaps, we could outlast them.:idk:

Doesnt seem like it but I think that may be what the old guy is doing. In the on eepisode where they chase the girl, rick says he gets tired running and they dont. I would want to know if they have fear, react to pain and find any other weaknesses to exploit aside from mashing their brains in.
