Naw... can't ride too much... I'm on call and can't hear the phone when I'm riding... so I put in 2.5 hrs... no real off road as the stock tires are horrid off road in soft stuff (recently rained here)

well let's hope the RR I left him calms his temper.

derf 10-17-2009 06:53 PM

you traded your cbr for that?

Mr Lefty 10-17-2009 07:05 PM

yeah.

I was tired of abusing the RR by riding it for commuting only... the roads down here suck for an SS... so I only ever rode it to commute on.

I've been wanting a Dual Sport for a while (no secret) and can't swing getting the BMW anytime soon... though to be honest... after today I don't know if I need/want the 800.

The RR was only getting 38mpg commuting at a high... this will get 65mpg.

I may eventually buy another sport bike to ride... probably track (if I can ever afford it) but I swear... I haven't had this much fun riding random roads since I was on my Indy trip last year with Trip, Fatburg, Kat, and Rae. and Never had this much fun alone riding.

I like the thought that at just about any random spot... I can take a right or left and just go...

racedoll 10-17-2009 09:05 PM

Looks nice!
Glad to hear you are having fun riding again. It sucks when you lose that.

Sixxxxer 10-17-2009 09:15 PM

Good luck with it :)

tached1000rr 11-15-2009 07:09 PM

How many miles you get in this weekend? It's never as much as I would like but I had 175 miles this weekend. Great riding and riding weather.

Mr Lefty 11-15-2009 07:25 PM

450 or so.... just hit 1900 miles on the bike

dReWpY 11-15-2009 08:12 PM

what is it again?

Mr Lefty 11-15-2009 08:17 PM

the bike? a DR-Z400

tached1000rr 11-22-2009 08:05 PM

Ebbs, I was curious how much difference you saw in insurance going from the RR to the DRZ?

Mr Lefty 11-22-2009 08:07 PM

it dropped $10 a month. so $38 a month full coverage.

tached1000rr 11-22-2009 08:07 PM

Every little bit helps!

Mr Lefty 11-22-2009 08:10 PM

hell yes it does. especially when I'm still paying $300 a month on my Xterra... which is in Iowa trying to be sold...

who do you have for insurance?

Mr Lefty 11-23-2009 07:21 AM

State Farm

Homeslice 11-23-2009 07:42 AM

Why did you replace the black piece with the white piece?

Mr Lefty 11-23-2009 07:51 AM

I replaced the stock tank 2gal with an IMS 4.2 gal tank... which I found out will take 4.6gal :D

now my range is >200 miles... where it was <150

also provides some radiator protection in falls... but I added some radiator guards anyways... over kill maybe... but better safe than sorry when it comes to the rads.

jtemple 02-12-2010 10:06 PM

How are you liking it? I want a dual sport pretty badly, but I don't know that I'm willing to have it as my only bike. Adding a second bike to the garage is something my wife most likely won't allow, but I REALLY want this:

2010 Husqvarna TE630
http://www.emoto.com/img/news/200911...rna-te-630.jpg

I want something road legal that is more dirt bike than street bike. The Huskys are pretty damn expensive though.

nice thing about the DRZ over the KTM is the maintenance needs... course that's about the only thing the DRZ has over the KTM... unless you count weight!

I love the bike... easier to tour on than the RR or my ZZR... though doesn't like Highway speeds... though I'm swaping in a 16t front sprocket (15t stock) so that'll help. and I'm putting on a full system exhaust and jet kit. so shouldn't be too bad.

remind me, and I'll give you a review when I get home.

if you're coming to the rally you can take it for a spin...

If it's not being driven, drop the full coverage and only keep comprehensive on it. Should drop it down to $10 or less per month until you sell it. Just make sure you call State Farm back if you plan on letting someone test drive it.

I did look into that, and while it does look like a badass bike, the maintenance schedule is through the roof! The Husky is lower maintenance. The smaller dual sports both from KTM and Husky are MX bikes w/turn signals on them, hence the insane maintenance schedule. The Husky TE 610/630s are big and heavy, but there's a lot less maintenance. I don't want to be changing oil every day I ride it.

the DRZ still requires an oil change every 1000 miles... but it only takes 2quarts and 10/40 oil is cheap. just sucks on long trips to have to pack oil, oil filters, and crush washers with ya.

no... no I won't. I got the bike in Oct... rode the Honda all summer last year... I was over it. The RR is a great bike... i'm just over riding like that on the street. I have more fun riding the DRZ day to day than the honda... I would have liked to have kept the honda and made it a track toy... but I just can't afford that.

smileyman 02-14-2010 07:07 PM

All i ask for is one of each. Is that to much. I NEED a SS, A Dual sport, a standard, a tourer...

Mr Lefty 02-14-2010 07:15 PM

lol... I would love to have an SS again... but I just have no drive to ride it on the street... too risky.

now if I could get stationed near a track, I may just look into getting a cheap track bike.

Carolina 02-14-2010 07:16 PM

I feel ya, there are a million bikes out there if ya change ya mind

i liken the Ebbs Flyer to a camel. A ship of the desert. Sure it's no thorouhbred but those noble steeds couldnt hack it where the DRZ thrives. Well appointed and set up for its mission, the perfect companion for a wanderer of the expanse.

Mr Lefty 02-25-2010 02:09 PM

yeah except this camel seems to be running on three legs!

I think the jetting settings I got were wrong. my local shop said they think it's too rich by my explanation... so we'll see this weekend

so I figured out WTF was wrong with my bike... or... actually... I didn't... but after fuck'n with the carb, trying different settings, finally went back to the settings I started with... and put it back in... and it runs like a fuck'n raped ape! power wheelies easy in 1st... chop the throttle in 2nd and the front comes up about 6"... pulls all the way to red line in 5th... at about 105.... I'm in love again...

seriously though... I was loosing my interest in the DRZ with the way the carb was acting... in the end... it was... well I still don't know... could have not gotten something seated right or something was catching :idk:

but all's good now. can't wait for June. actually May when I ride over to Rae's wedding and then up to my bro's wedding... then on to the Rally...

ps.... I want EL Fudges...

jtemple 03-27-2010 09:04 AM

Mr Lefty 03-28-2010 01:45 AM

get a used one... they can be found for 4-5g's with little miles...

Mr Lefty 10-23-2010 03:41 PM

Well Today is my 1 year mark for the DRZ and me... OD says 15563 an average of 1296.916666666667 miles per month... not bad... considering the bike sat from 24 Dec to 15 Feb in Omaha...

think I'm actually closer to 1500 a month on actual mileage but don't know for sure...

actually just had my 15k service, they said everything is amazingly clean... the valves were still on the tight side of the tolerances...

I am kinda expecting my Stator to go out shortly... seems they don't last much past 15k... so I think I'm running on borrowed time.

 that's most DRZ's lives... just ask trip.

but mine hasn't given me any issues thus far... I re wired from the rectifier to the battery with larger gauge wire (12g rather than 8g) and threw in an HID headlight(35w vs 55/65w) also swapped in a LED tail light (3w vs 10w). and even when running my heated grip wraps on the way up to Omaha (22w) no issues... oh had my GPS hardwired running the whole time...

I wish I had a gauge or something to tell me how many watts I'm using at any given moment. I think the stock Stator is like 180 or 200... but the bike itself(lights included) uses all but like 20w...

The local forum gets a really good dirt guy to put on a dirt clinic every year and this year they are doing a dual sport clinic. I signed up for it.

yeah, after putting as much mileage as I have this year on my fiddy. I really want to get a motard. People run 250s at nashville and other tracks that are somewhat tighter. So I may try a return to the track with a motard. I have much more fun on my fiddy than I ever did on the 600rr. I have the GS for service roads and the WR will be much more perfect for technical dirt than the DRZ ever will be. If I would of never got the GS, the DRZ would of been a better fit, but I got the GS.
