AdMore Lighting kit for Givi V35 bags
I recently added this LED lighting kit, to my Givi V35 bags, and after a couple of weeks use I'm very pleased with it. It acts as additional signal lights and brake lights. I've had people nail the brakes when they're a little too close behind me, when I just tap the brakes to slow down. After dark it's like a slap in the face, when they come on.
The one weird thing is that there's about a one second delay, for the LED light to come back on, after the turn signals have stopped flashing. Some peculiarity in how they designed their controller, I guess. This is how it looks with the brakes on. Sorry for the poor quality of the shot. It' s a screen cap from my Contour HD video camera. http://www.morallyambiguous.net/mult...AdMore_V35.jpg |
More visibility = good
|
The lights on my givi top case are great at night its a huge difference an dis esp helpful since th ebrake ligh tis tucked under the case and bracket

Definitely more visibility is good. I wish that they had a kit for my E340 top box too. |

I know, but I'm lazy ;)
I could likely buy the generic AdMore kit and make it work, far more easily. It's been years since I last did a circuit board layout. |
Givi is still using bulbs in their kit? I remember being really surprised by that when I bought a top case 5 years or so ago (and I'm still surprised, go figure).
|
That's what I heard, on another board, though I haven't seen it myself. Seems a pretty backwards thinking way to go.

Here's a short video of the AdMore light kit, on my V35 saddlebags.

Thats bright!!
And the delay is def weird. |
Sure is, especially as there's no delay on the brake lights. It's not a critical issue, but it is strange.
The extra outboard lighting definitely helps with visibility. It's not as bright as the stock brake light, for example, but it's very directional. Someone at minivan seat height must feel like he's being kicked in the face. |

It's strange that they don't make a brake light kit for the Givi E340 bag, since it has all of the necessary cut-outs on the bottom plate. I'm going to try hacking something together with the light set for the E370 and a strip of automotive LEDs, that I'm getting for $10.00. There's a perfect place to set up the light, in the grab handle. I'll just have to set up a reflector for them.
|
Almost done wiring up the top box. I ended up using one entire strip of automotive LEDs, under the reflector on the top box, and they're damned near blinding. They're embedded in flexible rubber so I was able to run them right across the back, then bend them into the grab handle area. They're also 3M tape backed, which made it that much easier.
I tested them by hooking them up to a 12V security system battery, that I had laying around. Being in the top box will put them just about at the eye level, of the average vacant driver, so that's perfect. |
There we go. Wiring is all done on the box. The bike side of things shouldn't take me more than maybe 15-20 minutes, once it warms up.

Looks good!!!

I'm really happy with the way that it turned out. From the outside the case looks completely stock, because I used the actual Givi wiring. Having the cut-outs for it made it easy but still has me wondering why they were there, since they never intended for it to have a light.
The inside turned out pretty clean too, with all of the wiring hidden under black 3M cloth tape and wiring sheathing, that I cannibalized from an ethernet cable. The LEDs in the box will only come on under braking but that's OK, because it'll make them stand out all the more. |
I was going to suggest running brake light only anyway.
|
Once I get the wiring done on the bike side of things, I'll make another video to show the overall results.
|
|
Damn skippy, every time you brake, it's going to show up on a NASA satellite.
Nice work. JC |
Thanks. I've very happy with how it turned out. Until the LEDs come on you'd never know it wasn't stock. \
For some reason it reminds me of the Vipers, in the Original Battlestar Galactica  |
