Alpinestars size 60 WTF?

Bare in mind I've never tried on A* jackets before. I go into a local dealer and try on some A* jackets. I first try on the 56 thinking it might be a little tight. Nope, way too tight, I can't zip it up passed mid chest. So I pick up a 58, still too tight. I can zip it all the way up but it's just too tight. So then I try on the 60 and alas a nice fit. I know it's Euro sizing but I ain't that fucking big. What gives, Are all A* gear that small? I know their gloves run small but their entire line?

Amber Lamps 03-26-2010 01:13 PM

Edward, tell your wife to stop cooking and start copulating! Na A* is small but I wear a 58..... Heck, O got you beat though... I wear a 36x34 in every type of jeans I own, including Icon, Sliders and Shift. I buy 3 pairs of Speed and Strength jeans on clearance from CompAcc in a 38x34 because the comments say they run small...way too tight! Like lay on the bed and suck it in tight. I had to *gasp* order a pair of 40x34s....fatty, fatty, fatty!!!

Sorry not fat.

Crap - This reminds me, my Alpine* jacket is getting pretty damn old. Been wearing it since 2002.

Gonna check the size on it when I get home.

goof2 03-26-2010 01:41 PM

They claim their Italian size 60 is equivalent to a US size 47 and change.

I think their sizing runs small. I've never had any of their stuff but I've heard this from other people.

The arms on their jackets run way too long IMO.

The shoulders are just too damn narrow but the waist is plenty big though. People in Europe must have bigger bellies than their chest circumference.

I think you're talking about Americans, lol. A* designs their stuff for us, for the most part.

Tsunami 03-26-2010 03:42 PM

He's not fat, he's fluffy!

A stars runs small. I run small, they run smaller. I finally had to sell my pants because they were squeezing the life out of me. The next size up is too big. My leathers look like they are painted on.

Mine is just about perfect. Will have to go try some new ones on to see if they've changed

My first one was small on me since I tried to guess from the charts without trying it on. But my current a* jacket fits great and its only a 52 euro and Im 5'10" and 180.

See that's what I'm saying. A* does not run small. A guy your size would ordinarily wear a 54 Euro in most other brands.

So you think it's ok for a woman to wear the same size as a man? Especially a man who has been lifting weights for 25+ years? That would be one scary woman.

Yea Ive tried on a few JR leather jackets and they were all 52 or 54. 52 being a little too snug and 54 pretty good.

For the "60 is a 50" crowd look at Astars sizing chart. They claim their 60 is for a 47 1/4 chest size.

It may be a recent change but those are the sizes they are claiming now and Rider's experience seems to confirm it.

true...maybe it's because they moved their operations and manufacturing facilities out of Italy...

TYEster 03-26-2010 09:42 PM

I wear a size 60 suit and it's TIGHT in the chest/shoulders/arms. My actual upper torso measurement is 49in "unflexed".

The sleeves I did have to get altered so that they weren't covering my hands, but that seemed to be a simple fix at a legit alterations place.

jtemple 03-26-2010 10:14 PM

Alpinestars leathers don't fit me right either. If I buy the suit large enough to fit my chest & shoulders, it's sagging around my waist. I'm talking about a good 4"-6" of room. I have to buy Joe Rocket stuff because it fits me better.

RS Taichi is another brand that should fit you. They are more "V-shaped".

Teknic is the opposite.......Baggy stomachs. :td:

Is your suit painted on too? I don't like the baggy butt look on the leathers most people seem to sport.

the "saggy butt" is because of the way leathers are meant to be worn... ie in the tucked racing position. in that position... they're tight and form fitting... when you stand up... there's excess material that makes it look like you just shit yourself.

my did sag in the ass... I don't have much of an ass to begin with

i don't have excess material but then again i can barely breathe in my leathers  hmm maybe i need looser ones then, I wouldn't want to turn blue and pass out on the bike.

Mr Lefty 03-27-2010 04:36 AM

dunno... maybe you have a bit of junk in the trunk... (a good thing )

pdog 03-27-2010 07:32 AM

What he said. I'm 6'0 and 160 and my RS Taichi jacket fits great. They are definitely Japanese shaped and sized.

I do have an Alpinestars jacket where waist fit isn't so critical. The waist is so loose on it I can carry a gun and spare magazine under it, and the chest is pretty damn tight.

Gas Man 03-27-2010 11:16 PM

Rider... what or why are you looking at A* for riding on your star? Honestly?

Few suggestions

Consider riding position.. you don't want some rocket jacket to rider your cruiser... it will suck.

Check out powertrip, fox creek leather, vanson, or even the HD store.

Even better. Get a Brooks jacket (25 yr warrenty). Buy it at the shop down here, lifetime warrenty!

Speaking of which. Its called A&M Leather on Eureka Rd. Just outside the airport. Little shop. Ran by old school bikers. Sell and service many leathers.

A good American leather jacket will always be WAY WAY nicer than that china and packistan leather. HUGE BETTER! But it will cost ya $400. I could show you the difference. I have a Brooks leather jacket. I have a cheap crap vest, that I want to replace with a Brooks leather vest. Just haven't spent the $140+ to get it.

Fleck750 03-27-2010 11:19 PM

Plus one on the Powertrip leather.

Gas Man 03-27-2010 11:26 PM

The wife's infamous pink leathers are PowerTrip. They are good for china made. They don't hold a candle to my Brooks in quality dept but they are decent.

Avatard 03-28-2010 12:42 AM

See... that is my problem. I wear a 2x normally and I had to order a 3x A* jacket. I felt like a complete fatass but the shoulders/bicepts/elbows were too tight with a 2x jacket. I almost considered ordering a 4x, but I've lost 30 pounds since I bought the jacket and im glad i didn't.

Why you ask. Because I like the look of the rocket style jackets plus they have CE armor in them where cruiser jackets don't do they? You can get some A* jackets that don't have a huge curve in the arms. I'll look into the ones you suggested though. But I want something with CE armor in the elbows, shoulders, and back.

Gas Man 03-29-2010 09:36 AM

Don't get it twisted... I luv A* stuff. For riding sportbikes you simply can't go wrong.

Understanding that the differences in riding and needs from gear is completely different. OK I know... you NEED it to protect your skin. I get that. But comfort is different.

And a great deal of HD jackets have armor in it. My Brooks doesn't, just some padding and extra leather. Heck HD even has road resistant sweatshirt type material that is also rain resistant as well.

First thing I do is pull out the armour. It doesn't fit right with it in there.

If I buy it to fit my shoulders with armour, then the waist of the jacket is way too small. If I buy it to fit my waist, then the shoulders don't fit. The elbow armour has to go too, doesn't fit my forearms..

Yea me too. Lost 28 pounds in 5 weeks. I hope to be down another 40 by the time I go to Italy in July. My job sucks too, I'm still a manager making barely more than minimum wage. Almost got a consultant job at Urban Active making like 50k. Would have been nice.

Just enjoying my last spring break... golfing and exercizing. Trying to get a loan to buy Was92v's F4i. Just need SOMETHING to ride.
