'09 Kawi lineup

And they fucked up bigtime with the 6R and 650R.

marko138 09-21-2008 10:11 AM

How? They look fine to me.

Mr Lefty 09-21-2008 10:12 AM

Oh GOD they made the ZX6R just as ugly as it's mother!

fucking-A Kawi! are you TRYING to not sell bikes?

well you like the buel... no accounting for taste....

naw... the front of the ZX10R and now the ZX6R are now by far the ugliest bikes yet.

the 650R doesn't look BAD... but it reminds you of the ZX6 and 10... and subsequently induces acid reflux

Exactly- lame. They kept the rounded tank and frame and everything and slapped on ZX10R bodywork. The 250 looks much better IMO, because it was a ground up redesign. Everything matches there. The blurb mentions new gauges- which I'm sure is another squidly concession to the brats that bought a 650 and wanted a supersport.

I love Kawi's smooth, flowing lines. Now they have the same old origami shit as Yamaha and everyone else. At least Honda is going back toward smooth.

Phenix_Rider 09-21-2008 11:20 AM

Bad shot of the new 650s dash- no fucking thank you. Love my analogs.

see I'd have to test that at night... my eyes may not like that color... damn astigmatism... I saw Kat's though... her 600RR wasn't bad and I think that's Orangeish red

you can always change the color if you dont like it. I always wanted to change mine, but never really got the urge to order the LEDs

Mr Lefty 09-21-2008 11:32 AM

yeah just looked up that thread on 600rr... looks simple and works awesome! I'll be doing that... especially if that blue comes to the states...

god damn you trip and your sexy ass RR... LOL

BobTheBiker 09-21-2008 02:27 PM

just like I figured, they're a bunch of retards. they're putting the EX500 line down after 09, they restyled the 600 to look like the 1000, they're AIMING to fall off our markets(not that I'd miss the kawi at all.

Sixxxxer 09-21-2008 05:13 PM

Lol, You guys make me Laugh...Because Yami's Styling is So much better Right? And Honda Is stepping up there game for Uglyness.

But you want my Opinion??

I Like it...I dont however Like the Side Exhaust, I like the undertail setup better.

lol this whole thread is about looks... we said nothing about because it's ugly that it'll be slow... just that it's FUCKING UGLY...

and I'd say 70%+ of people who buy new bikes buy on looks... not performance... shit actually I'd say it's higher.

and yeah... with the 1000RR... honda is right up there...

the new R1 is WAY up there again... I think Kawi may have the edge on it but it's worse than the 1000RR...

the R6 and GSXR600 are good looking bikes IMO... .but the 600RR is BY FAR the best looking 600 IMO...

Sixxxxer 09-21-2008 05:48 PM

I agree People buy Bikes because of Looks, But I dont think it Looks "Bad" I like the New Zx 10.

I dont like the Stock Tail section of the new 600RR...Otherwise it is a Sharp Looking Bike. It's all about prefrence though....And I prefer Kawi's.

Meh, I'm content with my 08...Fuck 09's

Dave 09-21-2008 06:51 PM

im guessing none of you took the time to read the features list on the 6r? lots of improvements plus general lightening and centralisation. not to mention the first fielding of showa's new fork design. the old one was a great bike to ride, just not the fastest one out there. looks like this one may fix the speed part.

my comments on the ex500, well do you really see room for another midsize modernised parallel twin in the lineup with the 650r around? kawi keeps old models around for a looong time but you cant seriously get mad when they ditch them for more modern gear

oh yeah, anyone whos complaining that they made it look like a baby ten oughtta remember that not too long ago the 6, 9, and 12 were nearly impossible to tell apart

The 6R looks too much like the ugly ass ZX-10. The 650R looks decent though.

Lol, I like my Bike...Thats all that Matters. But I do like the New Headlight Design. And it does look like a Much Improved Bike overall.

Oh Well, I'll Ride This One Till It's Paid Off...Then See what Kawi has to Offer.

it's not that we're complaining that they look similar... it's that they look UGLY... if the 10 wasn't ugly I'd say hell yes... make the 6 a baby 10...

I fell in love with the zx6r when I first saw it... and loved that the 9 and 12 looked like it's bigger brother...

but those bikes LOOKED GOOD  but that's in the past... with actual FUNCTIONAL headlights:lol: just ask anyone who was in front of me at night... with my HID I'd drown out cars headlight in the lane next to me.

marko138 09-21-2008 07:47 PM

The 6r is a solid looking machine.

Bassplayer 09-21-2008 07:50 PM

yea, it looks beefy. I like naked bikes. (sv) :)
so this would be cool.

The '07-'08 600RR is hot- The blue/silver tiger stripe color was sexy. Honda just needs to ditch the stupid stalk signals up front. Kawi has had it right for a while- integrate those suckers into the fairing. Doesn't look like Honda changed the 09s much.

i really never dug the bowtie lights

Dave 09-22-2008 12:40 AM

hmm another interesting thing about the new 6r: the top of the fuel tank is concave, supposedly so you can get a tighter tuck. however the size and depth of it make me think that this bikes gonna be popular with the stunter crowd as one fewer thing to prep

PiZdETS 09-22-2008 06:36 AM

It really seems to me that all the Japanese sportbike design guru's have gone the way of Chris Bangle at BMW. They took about 6 too many hits of acids and now think angular, classically ugly styling is now the new hotness. It's not.
And it is apparently illegal for any of the big 4 Jap firms to make a sportbike exhaust that isn't hideous and which kills any flow the designer may have forgotten to stamp out.
Italians, Brits and Austrians are the only ones making good looking sportbikes now. :panic: Shame.
Don't even get me started on Buells. Kat and I were walking around at Indy and happened on the new 1125 stopped us in our tracks....Jesus Christ those air intakes are just horrific. Did they not look at the bike before sending it off to production? You've got be majorly loyal to the brand or just not give a damn how your bike looks to ride one. Whichever aftermarket firm finds a subtle replacement for the air ducts will make millions.

marko138 09-22-2008 09:08 AM

None of the big 4 is designing those exhaust pipes, the government is. That's not gonna change. In fact, they might get bigger as emissions regulations tighten.

I agree... though the 1125r's pods (for the radiator not air intake) are for dual purpose... they act as frame sliders in a down.. they're less than $100 so not a bad design actually

All the new Kawi's are ugly as fuck. Whats with the orange? Every god damn bike manufacturer has an orange bike now..

The new ER650 looks OK to me to bad this thing out performs it in everyway...http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/c...3_a4f817ff.jpg

As for the ZX6R I like it but think it would have to have alot of performance improvements for me to trade my 05' ZX636 for it. It certainly doesn't have the raw curb appeal. Hell I think I like the lines of the ZZR better, but that may just be my 80's roots showin'

You're kidding right? The FZ6 feels anemic- to put it nicely. And the "R" is detuned from that.

smileyman 09-23-2008 04:05 PM

Yeah but the FZ6 was originally the R6 which means it has potential...Really though the parallell twin Ninja has only 65 ponies and 44 ft lbs of torque, whereas the FZ has 90 hp and 43 ft lbs...I know the power delivery characteristics are different but I think the FZ6R wins the engine wars hands down.

Then the 180 sized rear tire vs the 160 rear on the Ninja, styling is subjective, the aftermarket will cure the exhaust on both, ergonomics being almost identical with the FZ6R having remotely better passenger accomadations.

:idk: the price diff is only $200, I know which one I am riding away.

Not a big fan. The exhaust looks fuckin sweet, but i don't like the air intakes, gsxr headlight, or passenger pegs.

truth. $55 each is retail. and they work.

Sounds good to me. Has to have the flush signals though- like my 650R. I've seen the ZX6R both ways and the stalks are horrible.

Lower price definately. Don't discount the handling of the EG. It's a cruiser after all, it's not gonna carve like a scalpel....but it'll get you where you need to be.

and 618 for a full muzzy SS system is hard to beat

smileyman 09-24-2008 02:07 PM

Well I like the old styling of the ZZR. It has actual shape, working fairing rather than the minimalistic/ ultra shrink wrapped look so popular today.

It is a 600 so you can take trips without much concern for fuel mileage or planning your stops around which bike shop will be open to swap on new tires.

Pillion accomadations are actually workable, not like the mouse pad seat on the current RR crop. Rider ergo's are a little more humane, I mean I can think of a hundred reasons to buy this over say a standard like the GSX600F, ER6 or FZ6, hell even the FZ1, VFR or modern suspersport.

I can turn exciting lap times at any of my local tracks stock as it sits, Ebbs bike held up to his debauchery just fine save that last loop and I really don't need anything more.:idk:

Becca_007 09-24-2008 05:05 PM

While I like the ER-6n I don't understand dropping the Z1000. They already dropped the Z750S in 2007 after only having it for two years in the US. At least the Z1000 lasted 6 years I guess...

smileyman 09-24-2008 05:39 PM

I think the Z1000 was just a way to get rid of a ZX9 engine surplus. Dead sexy bikes for sure, just a small market niche that isn't that profitable in the end.

yes, i mean looks.

now, if u could take the nose of this, the tail from here, pipes from there, lights from that, etc-ud have a badass bike.

as far as kawi goes, the 05 zx6r was the shit with just a akra cf pipe. the ones before that with the bowtie lights were meh, and the 7, 9, &12 just look dated. a classic look lol-cept when they were new.

the orange on the zx14 would look gd if it wasnt broken up by those lame graphics. looks like my bikes rebellious grandson with stupid tattoos lol
