Best motorcyling tip

What is the best tip someone gave you during your motorcycling career so far? Just pick the first couple that come to mind, as I'm sure there will be several.

HurricaneHeather 03-06-2010 10:35 PM

You control the bike, the bike doesn't control you.

Trip 03-06-2010 10:52 PM

don't let off the throttle, lean further.

tached1000rr 03-06-2010 10:54 PM

ride at your own pace, don't try to keep up, and DON"T get suck into a corner following Travis or McGee lol......

Captain Morgan 03-06-2010 10:56 PM

Look where you want to go and trust your tires.

Apoc 03-06-2010 11:20 PM

Act like an asshole, and be proud of yourself doing it! Give bitter old bikers someone to blame!

dReWpY 03-06-2010 11:24 PM

Dont crash

was92v 03-06-2010 11:34 PM

Don't get involved with them. They will break your arm, your heart and clean out your wallet.

I never take advice well...

RACER X 03-06-2010 11:35 PM

crashing sucks, avoid it all cost.

101lifts2 03-07-2010 01:39 AM

Remember the only reason people promote gear is because they sell it.

Mr Lefty 03-07-2010 02:15 AM

When in doubt... throttle out....

I thought it was a ZZR600.

I'm with Captain Morgan, though. The best piece of advice I got was this:
Trust your tires.

BobTheBiker 03-07-2010 03:06 AM

the two best ones I have are:
ride at your own pace and within your limits.

respect the machine, but do not fear it.

Tmall 03-07-2010 06:27 AM

Look where you want to go. And, if you think you've overcooked a corner, lean harder..

Particle Man 03-07-2010 07:25 AM

It's ok to ride with snow on the ground

Amber Lamps 03-07-2010 07:57 AM

:boobs:Riding on the beach is like anal sex, they're both lots of fun while you're doing it but the cleanup can be a bitch! Greetings from Daytona Beach! !!:rockwoot:

No matter how shiny, no matter how state of the art, no matter what you paid or how much you truly love it, sooner or later they all go down on the road...Be ready.

'73 H1 Triple 03-07-2010 10:00 AM

Pay extra attention around pharmacies. They're old people magnets.

smileyman 03-07-2010 10:02 AM

Allow me to fix this advice...

LMAO, I thought I saw an adam's apple...

When listening to motorcycling advice it is wise to consider the character of the individual giving it.

Avatard 03-07-2010 01:03 PM

Ride as if you are invisible.

jalaan1 03-07-2010 02:10 PM

This is a good one and is generally the case around the average motorist.
But don't trust it to protect you from cops.:lol:

Mr Lefty 03-07-2010 02:30 PM

ok... a serious one...

you're too ugly to let people see your face all the time... wear a helmet!

No, the best thing to make you invisible to cops is being white, and driving a Camry.

Honestly, i've gotten away with a hell of a lot more stupid shit on bikes then I ever did in cars.

On a side note, I notice theres a lot less 'start small' going on around forums. Which isnt bad, it was pretty annoying.

the problem with most "start small" arguments... is that the person making them... seem like 90% of the time didn't start small...

I don't really care what anyone starts on... as long as they're honest with themselves and takes it easy...

that being said... I told my brother to start small...

Na, they'll get nailed for speeding, or causing a wreck cause of that damn accelerator pedal! :lol

karl_1052 03-07-2010 08:33 PM

Start small

I did.;)

Sixxxxer 03-07-2010 08:47 PM

When you follow Trip down Blood Mountain, Dont rely on his brake light as a gauge for each corner.

He doesnt use his brake.

Now I do, the GS can't make the corners like the RR and it's a heavy beast.

Sixxxxer 03-07-2010 08:50 PM

Lol.

To late now...

But for real.

Dont Trust the asshole next to you...Just pass the motherfucker like you mean it.

MikeSP1 03-08-2010 04:18 AM

If you think you're coming in too hot, hold the throttle and dig deeper.

Road rash sucks and dead cow skin is better at hitting the asphalt than your living skin.

I like to ride motorcycles, wearing a helmet can save my head so that I can ride motorcycles more, because you can't ride if you're dead.

DONT TRY TO KEEP UP, we'll wait for you at the stop sign.

wildchild 03-08-2010 08:43 AM

i have two

look through the turns.

and most importantly, if you don't feel like taking a ride don't go.

We have a similar phrase uttered around here.. except substitute Chris or Evan for Travis or McGee.

skiergirl 03-08-2010 01:08 PM

Most have already been said - Ride your own ride and don't try to keep up with anyone ever! Respect your bike and what it can do....but always know YOU control it and just because it can doesn't mean you should.

I figured out the gear part on my own after watching a few friends crash on our rides...

Looni2ns 03-08-2010 06:29 PM

When you stop, don't look down.

racedoll 03-08-2010 07:38 PM

Some of mine...
  • Your bike's capababilities far exceed what you will ever do on it.
  • Trust your tires.
  • Don't try to "tell" your bike what to do, because if you do - it will spit you off.
  • Reading is no substitute for doing or the experience that comes from doing.

Very true

First time at the track- Don't worry about speed, concentrate on being smooth, and the speed will come.

Plan on where you are going to put your foot down. (to avoid tipovers)

Its easier to get off the bike and push it then it to back up on it. (For short people anyway)

Seat shaving vs lowering the bike, and thick soled boots

Kerry_129 03-08-2010 08:20 PM

Look where you want to go - don't fixate on hazards/side of the road.

Countersteer - push right to turn right & vice-versa.

DON'T PLAY KEEP-UP!

azoomm 03-08-2010 08:26 PM

Don't forget to breathe....

fnfalman 03-10-2010 12:45 PM

My tip concerns group riding:

If you're going to ride in a group, stay behind the hot chick and enjoy the view.

MissHell 03-10-2010 01:17 PM

Trust your tires.

Look where you want to go.

After starting your bike, walk the bike 2-3 steps. (To save yourself/bike if you forgot to remove the disk lock).

racedoll 03-14-2010 04:14 PM

Chicken wings, flap/flap the elbows = relax!
