2009 R1...Anyone Rode One...Write up?

I'm thinking about getting this or the 1000rr early next year. Since I ride street every week, I'm mostly looking to ride street, though I'll do 5-7 trackdays. I'm concerned about the suspension quality and the weight. I've already sat on the bike and it fits me the best of all the Japanese supersports. Shit, even some dude on the moutain on Sunday was offering to let me ride his 09, but I declined. Have this thing about riding others bikes that I don't know.

Post up a writeup if you rode one.

thx

Never ridden one, but they sound sexy as shit.

tached1000rr 09-29-2009 08:21 AM

Actually I have and had planned on doing a write up, I'll see if I can get my thoughts together....

I agree..especially with aftermarket exhaust.

A local place also has 2008 leftover CBR1000RR's for $7200....quite a deal.

Phenix_Rider 09-29-2009 12:21 PM

I did a while ago- it's around here somewhere... ah well. The guy that rode it before me thought it was horrible- ignition cutting out and whatever else. I think he just had it on C "lame" mode. Put it in A, and the difference from the '08 was that it felt slightly more like a V-twin. And has an insane amount of heat directed at your right thigh. PAINFUL! I liked the 08 better- it's easy to ride until 7k or so, then it's "warp speed." Plus, any other year looks MUCH better.

Get the CBR

The new R1 isn't exactly very "pretty" either. Matter of fact it is downright fugly with the headlights and fat ass.

Somewhat agreed.......However don't they still make that special tape you can put over the headlights, to make the lens look black even though it doesn't interfere with the light output?

t-homo 09-29-2009 07:31 PM

I actually like the headlights in person.

I would also take the CBR.....

Trip 09-29-2009 10:11 PM

Even though it's ugly, the R1 is suppose to be one badass mother fucker, which is a big plus. The cbr is suppose to be better for street riding though, so you got to choose whats important.

Dave 09-29-2009 10:49 PM

all i know is theres at least three guys on the 10r forum that "traded up" to the r1 and went right back in less than a week

tached1000rr 09-29-2009 10:51 PM

I'm working on a write up comparing my current 2004 CBR 1000RR to the 09 R1 and also a 07 R1 to the 09, hope to have it done by this week's end....

The real reason I like the R1 is the bike fits me perfectly. Seat to handlebars is VG without having to slide back on the seat or get pushed forward. I'll have to sit on the 1000rr again cause I'd rather have that (much cheaper and lighter), but the R1 sounds cool as hell.

My street riding is aggressive...we only ride a small amount of road...then also track on occasin. Not concerned about long distance anything.

Ugh, I don't see how it "fits" anyone. I had to push away from the tank after EVERY bump. Between that and holding my legs away from the heat, I felt pretty silly.

lack of power and the extreme amount of heat on the legs. their internal search engine wont do two character searches so its difficult to find specific threads

tached1000rr 09-30-2009 09:51 AM

The heat is INSANE, I mean really hot!!! I could not wait to get back on my own bike. And this was on an overcast 70 degree day on the shaded blueridge parkway.

z06boy 09-30-2009 10:01 AM

The heat on my 07 was a bit much too until I switched out the exhaust. I still have stock exhaust BUT the cats were deleted...race baffles installed in the cans and wrapped in a sheet of carbon fiber plus the exhaust has been coated in a ceramic heat treatment.

It sounds and feels much better now....much better.

if you would of shifted out of first you might not of had those problems:lol

Sean 09-30-2009 10:03 AM

Heat from my exhaust was bad but when I switched to water / water wetter it was considerably better.

The new R1 is my fave literbike, too bad I only ride middleweights.

:lol It's hard on the parkway not to be in 1st gear on that thing given the speed limits, heck even 2nd gear is a herky jerky affair. But on other roads it does not matter the heat continues to roast from that freaking exhaust.

tached1000rr 09-30-2009 11:44 AM

Just made a thread comparing/reviewing the 09 r1 to my Cbr.....

Badass?
Is that why it finished last in most track tests?

It is ugly, and it does not sound half as good as I thought it would.
