Its tough...
 

Its tough seeing family in pain and not being able to do anything about it.

My brother in law had an accident on Wednesday night and had head injuries. It has been a long week. Things are improving but they say it will be a long road. For me it seems to be getting harder. Its hard to see him like that but I don't want to leave his side.

Enjoy life but don't forget that it only takes a split second for your life to change.

Head injuries are tough, a lot of times its just wait and see.

Hope all turns out well though.

I know what you mean with the wait and see part. It sucks but I know. I'm just happy that the surgeon didn't find the damage he thought he would find. He also said that is the fastest they ever had someone go from an accident to surgery.

They usualy try to get those casses to the or fast so they can save brain tissue, if they went in I assume they saw stuff on the CT scan. Sometimes a normal CT is worse if theyre comatose because then its a truly a case of get ready and wait.

:( I'm sorry to hear of the situation, and my best wishes go out to him for a good recovery & your family for dealing with the strain.

Words of wisdom right there - especially for motorcyclists & others like us who take pretty major risks routinely. Never, ever take it for granted.

They took out a bone flap and removed clots. That's when the swelling started. He said that they would find a lot of damage with the cat scan but when it was done he said they didn't find anything other then a vein that was bleading. He said there can still be problem but so far they are happy with his recovery. He is opening his eyes and trying to move around on his own now.

They at talking about removing the breathing tube in an hour or so. He seems to be responding to us when when ask questions.

What makes it hard is the fact that he has had accidents in motocross and track days and is also a cop. But what puts him in the hospital is tubing down a hill.

Sorry to hear that Triple. How is he doing? It looks like it just missed the airbag sensor. Does anyone know if they have to get hit directly?

You are doing something. You are staying by his side and being strong for him.

Since they opened him up, the chances of damage due to swelling are greatly reduced.

I wish him and the rest of the family good luck with helping him recover. I will pray for his complete recovery.

I understand you want to be there as much as possible but don't run yourself down. Take time for yourself to recharge YOUR batteries so you will be around to help him.

Sorry to hear about your family members Flexin and Triple. Thoughts and prayers to both!

I know I am doing something but I always want to do more. I want to snap my fingers and make him better but it doesn't work. Until then I will be by his side helping any way I can. Even if its just wiping sweat from his forehead I will be here. Tonight I'm here with him so the rest of the family can have their first night home since this has happen.

BTW, they told me he talked to a nurse tonight. She was messing with the feeding tube from what I hear and he said "take it out". He is making progress.

That sounds very good esp if theyre looking ot extubate him this fast.

head injuries can be so hard to tell though. There was a girl in NYC who got shot in the head point blank and was just an innocent bystander and shes out of the hospital and doing realy well and initially they expected the worst.

Guess theres a reason why these brain surgeons go to school for like a million years.

I will be praying for a speedy and complete recover. Take care of yourself too, don't get yourself worn out.

I'll be saying prayers for you, your BIL and your family.

They put John in a chair today and he was only able to stay in it for about an hour. He wasn't very awake during this time. Someone came down to do a physio assesment on him today. They will start Physio on him starting Monday.

He also had an MRI. The damage that was done affected the area of the brain that affects eye sight and the areas that handle speech and understanding speech.

They will not know for a while how his is affected or at all. Its hard to say. He has done things already the shows he can see, talk and understand what your saying but its not all the time. But its also real early as well.

The doctor that was telling us about the MRI said she is impressed with how he has improved over the last few weeks. She must have been even more impressed when we reminded her that its been just over a week.

I spent the last three nights with him at the hospital. Its different watching guy jump doubles on a dirt bike, ride a sports bike, play baseball and football and then getting excited because he can wave or move his thumb when you ask.

Oh James....

I know it's pretty hard to sit and wait. John is such a lively, out going guy, but I think he was always thoughtful and considerate in his actions. He didn't rush into things foolishly, or so it seemed to me. He's recovering quickly but he's not going to be in a rush to do huge things all at once. He'll get healthy one day at a time and he'll do it with the love and support of his awesome family and friends.

To everyone here, I rarely saw James without John. They were always smiling. Always friendly. Always decent to one another and the people they encountered.

In light of everything that is going on in the world today, I know good vibes are stretched thin... But if you can, think some good thoughts for John, for James and for all the people that love John.

As some of you know, a year ago my sweet granddaughter, Lauren, Danny's daughter, was in Sisken Rehabilitation trying to learn to put her words together from a head injury she sustained in a horrible car wreck near her home. We almost lost this beautiful young woman.

Well, folks, the Lord has blessed us in many ways, and gave Lauren back to us . Today, a little more than one year later, she's an honor student at Cleveland
State Community College and has made the Dean's List!

I am so proud of her! She's had to work so hard just to focus and find her way. From not remembering what things are to the Deans List is no small accomplishment! This has made me one proud granny!!! Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes for us. Your friendship has meant the world to us.

Had to share some good news with all the bad news going on in the world.

Thats the thing too. Lisa and I have been together for about 17 years. So I have known John a long time. We used to play catch, I lived with them for about 5 years (before we bought our house) so we were close. We rode dirt bikes/atvs and street bikes together.

I don't think of John as a brother in law. That is my brother laying in the hospital. I would do anything for him.
