Thought it would be a good ride

I came up to the light going up Lookout Mountain and I got behind a Busa and V-Max. This should be an interesting ride. They were quick leaving the light, but that was it.

The Busa was the really pretty white with blue accents, and the rider had a blue leather jacket. They had Colorado plates, but he was so stiff going around the curves he looked like a zombie. A lot of traffic coming down so I couldn't pass. A rider on a red bike came up behind me. In my rear view mirrors it looked like a Yamaha Fazer from the 80's. I couldn't stand it any longer and pulled into a turnoff. The red bike followed. It was a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100.

The rider was my age and we started talking bikes. The guy had done the "48 plus." That's an Iron Butt of riding three countries, 48 states, and Alaska. In fact, he was friends with Gary Egan, an Iron Butt record setter, and Lee Parks who wrote "Total Control". And he agreed that the Busa rider was too slow. Coming down there was only one car to pass so it turned into a good ride after all.

Could of been worse, the Busa rider could of tried to ride above his head and wrecked himself.

Sounds to me like the Busa rider was riding his own ride and enjoying the day.

With all the experience you have, why do you always sound like a punk when it comes to other riders?

I was riding over Big South Fork today and there were like 20 horse trailers. It was retarded. Especially cause they were just Pac-Maning the whole time, like, "THIS IS MY ROAD".

Stupid.

Don't even get me started on those mother fuckers riding Alpo on the hoof :td:

What a bunch of elitists who shit doesn't stink. I used to like horses until I lived down the road from a county park where they took their rides and holier than thou attitudes. Fuckers wouldn't even stop to look before riding across the road. Just flip their hand out like you could stop on a dime and give them change.

Best one was when I was in my lifted 4wd suburban. I'm doing just under the speed limit ( posted 40 and I was doing 35 because it's an asshole area) and they rode out into the road with their hand flipped out.

I had to lock up the brakes and literally slid sideways to stop 15' from the bitch and her horse. She had the audacity to start yelling at me for all the tire noise that spooked her horse.

She decided it was time to leave when I made it extremely clear I would be more than willing to put down her horse if it got hit by the suburban.

:lol::dthumb:

Not a big fan of anyone (bicyclists, horseback riders, etc) who think they're immune to the rules and common courtesy on the road.

Particle Man 04-18-2010 10:03 PM

You'd hate me. I ride slow as hell if I'm out enjoying the day.

Feel free to pass.

No, I wouldn't hate you, because of your attitude. You will let me pass.

This asshole in his horse trailer actually swerved toward me.

While the driver deserves a wake up call I'd be reluctant to take it out on the horses. They already have to deal with the dickhead driver sitting on their back all day.

How do I sound like a punk? I pulled over and was surprised that the rider behind me did too. Moving to the right or pulling over to let faster riders by is a common courtesy and a safe way of riding. Punks are riders who won't let you pass.

Ah, no, pulling over is a courtesy and you should never come to expect it. It's a nice thank you, like a girl asking for it in the face after she just fucked you. The fuck is good, but her wanting it in the face is like icing on a cake.

However, you expect to blow it on her face when she may have other plans.

You are the punk, the rider was enjoying his day and is never obligated to let you by and that is the safe way of riding and the LAW of the land. That's the simple rules of the road, you can turn around or stop like you did. You complaining about it is just retarded and makes you sound like an idiot.

I deal with people who don't pull over all the time at the gap. I am the danger in that situation and not them, I am the one choosing to attempt to make the pass, ride behind, or pull over. It's up to me, they legally and rightfully have the line and the road.

Why do you for one second believe pulling over is the safe way to ride? Would you cause danger to this person?

t-homo 04-19-2010 12:27 AM

Trip, I thought you were referring to how he always gets on here and sucks his own dick because he is a better rider than the people he encounters.

Homeslice 04-19-2010 12:36 AM

The Busa rider should have moved a little towards the shoulder line so that No Worries could have passed him without crossing the centerline. If that opinion makes me a punk, so be it. At least I would have had the courtesy to do as I describe.

Good analogy, about the splooge on the girls faces, the rest I really didnt bother reading

The white busa with blue accents is a 2010 model. Probably a brand new rider.

the chi 04-19-2010 09:55 AM

While I wouldnt have said it like Trip, I kinda agree. Its your responsiblity to make a safe pass, not his to pull over for you.

If he's a newer, inexperienced rider, chances are he never even realized you were there. Having helped alot of newbies along, the most important thing I had to stress to them was to RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE, and DONT WORRY about what everyone else is doing because its THEIR (as in the wanna be passer) responsiblity, not yours (the newbie) to make that safe pass.

Not everyone is as good as you may be and its significantly harder for someone whos not comfortable on their ride to be watching a mountain road, their mirrors for folks behind them and making sure they dont fall off the mountain.

I hope he doesn't show up at the rally AND ride behind me cause #1 I'm enjoying the ride and probably going too slow for you and #2 I'm on a cruiser which will probably just piss him off even more. And #3 I come from the land of straight roads so it may take me a few minutes to get used to, actually, I don't know, TURNING! :lol I would hate to fall off a mountain and ruin everyone's ride that day...

the chi 04-19-2010 10:35 AM

 Enh, we are really laid back at the rallies, a better group you'll never find. People dont get left behind, we always know the faster riders will be stopped waiting ahead and its def a ride your own ride environment. I cant wait!

Cutty72 04-19-2010 10:37 AM

One of these years, I will make it...

that's exactly what I was thinking. every post telling everyone how awesome he is and someone else slowed him down.

 don't worry... if you fall behind.... you'll still have to wait on me and the DRZ

Mr Lefty 04-20-2010 02:15 PM

I've been in both situations... I've followed someone through some nice bit of road and was fuck'n annoyed when they didn't pull off... especially at the gap with cars...

but I've been on the other end... have people come up on my ass.. and because I expect people to let ME pass... I pull over.

I think its common courtesy... if there's an area... pull over... and honestly... I'd probably think you were a jerk for not doing so.

goes the same for trucks and RV's... if you have a line of people behind you... pull over and let them by... it sucks to be stuck behind an RV or a slow truck...

if your out enjoying the ride/drive... GREAT! enjoy it... but be courteous to other drivers/riders and let them by... :2cents:
