Porkchop 04-23-2010 11:49 AM

Nice man!!! I loved that bike. They run real well, and sound great with that Yosh. The only thing I didn't like was the feel from the forks, but who knows... there might have been somethign wrong with it....

BTW the orange looks sick on this bike. This pic doesn't do it justice.

I had signals just like that on my 05. Worked great.

tached1000rr 04-23-2010 11:55 AM

congrats

Captain Morgan 04-23-2010 11:59 AM

Congrats! The R6 is a blast to ride (but aren't most bikes?) and I'm sure you'll love it.

karl_1052 04-23-2010 01:01 PM

BTW, those cheap chinese fairings from ebay are crap.

Those fairings arent off ebay thats another site and its in London. so its listed for 649 EUR which is a little over $700. cant spend that on it.

Tmall 04-24-2010 06:00 AM

I had the same bike in red. It was awesome. Much faster than my Buell.

goof2 04-24-2010 11:23 AM

Congrats!

You may want to see if the recall was performed on the sprocket retaining nut and lock washer. It hadn't been done to my 01 which I bought in 2007. The dealer performing the recall is supposed to put a punch mark like a period after the VIN number to indicate it has been done.

For the R6 the effected VIN number ranges are below.
RJ04E-0000015~0028429
RJ06E-0000012~0030477
RJ04Y-0000006~0002931
RJ06Y-0000004~0006432

Tmall 04-24-2010 11:37 AM

I know somebody will quickly chime in and say "set your suspension up right and you won't need it". But, I highly recommend a steering damper. I tried everything I could on mine and it still had a lot of headshake. I had 3 pretty bad tank slappers on it as well.

jalaan1 04-24-2010 12:35 PM

congrats! enjoy it.

racedoll 04-24-2010 03:02 PM

Lol i wish you would of said something about this sooner lol. I was on my way to work and as i was slowing down to get off the ramp the Sprocket slipped off the drive shaft and i was just rolling down the ramp. Pushed it into the closest Gas station and had a buddy bring me some tools. I thought the Chain just jumped off or something. it was really strange to me. When i got it all taken apart the chain was still on the sprocket and the sprocket was just sitting next to the drive shaft. I was like what the hell they didnt put the lock washer on it. Idk what happened exactly. It had the 520 Conversion done about a month ago so im thinking the washer wasnt put on and the nut just wiggled loose

Full Throttle 04-24-2010 10:35 PM

Mine fits into the range of the first one.

The RJ04E~0000015~0028429

So apparently what I've been reading up on claims no matter what state the warranty of the vehicle is in they are supposed to replace the lock washer and the Nut. My bike is currently at Southern Honda cause i trust them the most but if Yamaha will fix it for free thats 50 bucks i'm going to save by bringing it to RT Cycle down the road. What do yall suggests. Southern Honda "The Biggest Honda Dealer in The World..." where i know some people or RT Cycle... Both are closed today cause its Sunday and RT is closed Monday so i wont be able to find out till Tuesday if thats true or not.

Any time there is a recall no matter if you're not the original owner or its been years past the recall. It is always free and they need to do it. My vehicle had a recall on the seat belt buckles. It's an '88 and I'm not sure if its been done, if not I can roll into a suzuki dealership and they would have to do it.

goof2 04-25-2010 05:28 PM

Mine was done at no cost at a Yamaha dealer 6 years after the bike was originally sold. As long as no one added the dot at the end of your VIN like what is shown on the 2nd page of the TSB you posted it should be the same for you. It sucks that it happened to you, but at least there wasn't major damage and it should get taken care of.

Full Throttle 04-25-2010 05:34 PM

Okay good. I'm going to call them Tuesday and schedule them to do it that day. Hopefully Southern Honda doesn't charge me for housing my bike or some bull shit like that.

Amber Lamps 04-25-2010 08:45 PM

I don't know if anyone else noticed this but. you said that the bike was modified by the previous owner. In my experience, when you change from a 525 sprocket to a 520 sprocket, you have to use a washer that is provided in the kit to keep things tight and as you stated, perhaps the previous owner didn't bend the tab on the washer up after he tightened the nut.:idk: Sorry to be a wet blanket but I don't want you to get your hopes up.:sorry:

I didnt think of that. But maybe they wont realize its been converted to the 520. Thats kind of unlikely but ya never know lol. Still it has nothing to do with the warranty so maybe that doesnt matter either.

Did you do the conversion? If so how did you go about getting the dealer to replace the parts?

My bike still had the stock chain and sprockets so I don't know how that would change anything. After I bought the bike I found the TSB you posted applied to my bike. I had a buddy that was the service manager at a Yamaha dealership so I asked him about it. He said it was still covered, give him a week to get the parts in, bring it by, and they would get it done. It took around an hour. You may want to ask one of your buddies at the Honda dealership if they would honor a similar TSB on a Honda if a 520 kit had been done and work from there.

That or just call or stop in and talk to the guys at Yamaha, tell them the situation and ask if they will still do the recall. They may still do it and charge Yamaha for the parts and labor. What I wouldn't do is try to sneak it past them...

His bike was at the Honda dealer which opened today. The Yamaha dealer doesn't open until tomorrow. I figured he would need to make a decision today and since the Yamaha dealer wasn't open he could only ask his buddies at the Honda dealer for advice.

Actually the Yamaha dealer was open, kind of surprised me to be honest. But when i read off the VIN to them they told me it wasnt within the affected range. Thats not true however because it fits perfectly within this range "RJ04E-0000015~0028429" range. so i think they are just trying to get out of it. Im not really feeling like getting into an argument with them cause they are a bunch of assholes over there anyways so im just going to let my friends at Southern do it. its only 45 dollars and they have to file some of the threads on the drive shaft cause the sprocket rubbed some of them a bit when it came off. Im going to tell them to be sure and locktite it as well cause i dont want that shit coming off.

Having to force them to do it along with the hassle of having to move the bike from one shop to the other wouldn't be worth the $45 to me either. Good luck getting it fixed.

Full Throttle 04-27-2010 06:50 PM

Got it fixed all is good she is running great. Only cost 44.70 actually so it was cheaper than they said. Parts only cost 6.38 so it was a cheap fix. Worst case scenario would of been a cracking the case open and replacing the drive shaft. Im glad it wasn't that bad.

You mean just the threads that the nut use, right? Hopefully not the splines that the sprocket slides over.
