I don't get where all the hate comes from..he's some kid making money off pop music. No different than anyone from Nsync to Poison to the Osmonds to Brittany to Hannah Montana to etc. Heck, at one time Mozart would have been considered a "pop star" . I don't think I've ever even heard one JB song but hey he's doing his thing and getting paid, nothing wrong with that. There is so much hatred in this country for success....

Kaneman 09-11-2010 11:20 AM

Its not a hatred for success, although there is plenty of that going around, but a hatred for America's obsession with pop culture, kids fainting/acting like monkeys, and so forth that also drives the overall quality of music down. Bieber is one of the most popular figures representing that right now, so he takes a lot of the shit.

hes nothing new though, hell girls were fainting when the beetles were doing their thing. Granted th equality of the "music' has gone way down, but they will keep manufacturing these pop stars. Gotta wonder how much money he actualy gets vs the record label and whoever "created" him.

Not really, if they didnt think he was dangerous they could have told him to just keep his hands in his back. But yeh that is a good point

No doubt. And I hate the Beatles WAY more than Bieber.

I just dont think he will have the staying power that the beetles had. very few of these teen pop start have any real success afterwards and most are either the butt of jokes by their fans who grew up, or now thanx to reality tv can wind up on some show for has beens like celebrity rehab.

I wonder now if Miley Cyrus is popular because she puts out good songs or for what she does in the tabloids.

Nsync- Boy band Suck

Poison- Big hair Suck

Osmonds- Mormon Suck

Brittany- Slut Suck

Hannah Montana- Bubble gum Suck

Mozart- Did not suck.

Do you see the pattern there?

Yea, no shit man. The Beatles had no competition and 3 channels of TV...so when they made it to the small screen everyone in America had no choice but to watch.

Its a little different now.

I read the first setence, and then I was like, 'Wait, is he really comparing the Beatles to Justin Bieber.

But then you redeemed yourself with the next line.

Please, dont put the greatest band ever in the same category as a talentless pop star. :wtfru:

Aw dude, you must be "trolling"... Go back and listen to a few of the "greatest band ever" earlier albums and try and tell me that "I wanna hold your hand" has any more social relevance than "Tik Tok" by Keisha. The Beatles were packaged and sold just like JB, Elvis, the Backstreet Boys, New Edition, etc. That's the music industry now and that was the music industry then. Nothing has really changed except your perspective.

Now if you'd like to argue that some of their later work was relevant, I'd probably agree with you. Of course, then you'd have to concede that the possibility exists that JB could still write extraordinary music in the future, once he has established himself. Heck, maybe he'll spend some time with the Dali Lama....

Justin beiber doesn't write music. He is just a singing puppet for the music label that created him.

Anyways...

A LOT of people write their own music. They just aren't on MTV. They are in your local pub, on the internet, or other venues. That's the only music I listen to anymore. Music that has nothing to do with the bullshit music "industry"

I've listened to all the albums... Im not talking about their early pop... Im interested in the later, drug fuelled psychedelic rock... Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Sgt. Peppers...

Again, dont compare the beatles to Justin Bieber...

He's the "Youtube kid" right?
I dont like the music or the modern music industry however I am twice the age of the demographic that drives music sales. Whats the difference between someone being discovered playing in a local bar vs discovered on youtube?

Dude, you don't sound any better than the teenie boppers screaming for JB. A fan is a fan, is a fan, is a fan....

We honestly don't know what that kid is capable of.:idk:

Most of the music we listen to has been packaged. I don't care if it's Rap, Country or Death Metal, someone has processed it, tweaked it, packaged it and sold it to us. That's the way it is and that's the way it always will be.

Naww, theres a big difference between a band that writes their own music and pop 'sensation' like bieber, who has little to no talent and sings whatever is given to them.

The music scene of the 60's and 70's is far different then todays.

The monkeys.

Homeslice 09-13-2010 01:37 PM

Not to mention that very few people actually play an instrument these days.

I don't really think that he is serious...

BTW Justin Bieber did a good job of playing the drums on the VMAs... and I don't believe that you really know who writes his music, do you? What instruments he plays? For all I know, the kid could be a concert pianist and a violin virtuoso...:idk:

No it isn't.

More and more folks are going "off label" and doing their own thing via i-tunes.

Here's one example of the best "band" you've never heard of, doing a lady Gaga cover (better than did she it, IMHO). And yes, they do also write their own stuff as well.

I think I already mentioned the Osmonds but oh yea they fit. Heck, you can go back to the 30s and 40s and find "artists" and groups that were packaged and presented to the public. Shirley Temple comes to mind immediately, Judy Garland, etc. The entertainment industry has always manipulated the artists and packaged our entertainment. When Oog first hit a rock with a stick, Colonel Ugh was there to capitalize and market the "new" stick and rock sound sweeping the caves!!!...

most of the old motown and early rock and roll bands were like that too. All the stuff with phil spector and some of the other guys back then controled everything the groups did.

Exactly what I'm saying... they dressed them, coached them what to say, everything... I honestly don't understand how anyone can think that this is "new". There are different levels of packaging but it's always there. Pretty much everything that people say or have said about Bieber was said about the Beatles at one time and probably worse.

That's my other point. Was it you that pointed out that Gaga is a trained musician? For all we know, this kid graduated Juliard at 14.:idk: As far as the Beatles go, I don't pretend to know the exact level of :handling" they enjoyed but from the documentaries I've seen about them (I'm also somewhat of a fan), they had a huge entourage when they came to America. They were very strictly coached, prepped, etc. Of course, they did go off script every once in a while...
