Where Did You Propose?
The food court proposal thread just has me wondering. I'm curious where the married peeps on TWF asked their spouse (or was asked) to marry them. And how long were you dating before doing so?
For me, I asked my (now) wife in Key West on a sunset cruise. It was during Fantasy Fest weekend and several of our close friends were there. We had been dating for 2 years, living together for 1.5 of them. Going on 7 years married now. |
Had planned to propose in Boston by the piers but failed to bring the ring like an idiot.
Ended up proposing at home. It worked out better that way since she hates being a public spectacle  |
At a bar during karaoke with a bunch of friends around. Our first date we went out to karaoke with the same DJ (a friend of hers).
Been together for a little over 5 years at the time, wedding in Sept. |
First wife: I bought the ring after we had been together for about a year and a half.
We went to her moms down in Augusta to visit for the weekend and so I could meet her grandmother who had come down from Illinois for a visit. I had determined that if I got along with her grandmother and they liked ME..I would propose at dinner AFTER asking permission from her mother and grandmother. We all met...everyone loved one another, and her mother and I went to the grocery store prior to dinner, where I saw a little nickel machine with rings. So I bought a fake heart shaped diamond ring (she wanted a heart shaped diamond...so I actually bought a real one, so this fake one was perfect) and presented her the fake one at dinner. Everyone was laughing and she too thought it was a joke and said yes...then Grandma handed me the real one and I did the REAL proposal. Again...she said yes. Seemed sincere. Never heard a doubt afterwards. Then.....10 years later when she informed me that she was leaving, she told me that had I not "pressured her" in front of her grandmother she never would have said yes :skep: Second wife: I ordered specialty M&M's (her favorite candy) in pink and red that said "Marry me!" and poured them onto her bed spelling "Marry me" and a heart. Then I ordered rose peddles in pink and red and sprinkled them from the front door to her bed. And I was waiting in the bedroom for her after work. No pressure...just me this time  We've been married 3 years in May |

The official proposal was in bed. He proposed with a keyring with the key to HIS Ducati 998. We got rings the year after we got married - they are simple titanium bands. He proposed, and didn't get an answer. My head freaked out... I had come out of a horrible divorce and followed that with a stalker. The thought of getting married made me hyperventilate. So, he proposed after we had moved in together. He then left and went to work for a few weeks. After that, he posted that thread online while I was at work. We now give each other keyrings on anniversaries. My favorite was what he now wears as his wedding band when he's home:http://www.thinkgeek.com/interests/gamer/756e/ Get it? It's a ring, that's a bottle key. |

I proposed just outside of Gatlinburg TN in the middle of the woods. We were on a hiking path that was part of a tourist attraction. She always wanted to go there so I setup the trip as her college graduation gift.
We were dating 5 months and I asked her parents before we left. We were married 7 years this past October. |

Similar to Lee, i took her to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas to snorkel for the day, got back to KW and took her to the pier just in time to catch the sunset, where it went down.

I filled out the questionnaire and sent the company the $1000 fee.
After all the paperwork was filled out and signed, I picked her up at the airport and we headed to the justice of the peace. Her english is pretty good and my russian is improving. Hopefully when the contractual terms expire she will stay. |
Louie and I were on a moto trip to Glacier Park, MT. We hiked to the top of a mountain and he proposed there - he'd planned on taking the trip a year earlier but we never went on it. We'd been together 7 years - now married for nearly 2

Edit- but that would scare me. It would be just my luck that she would have to pee just about the time it was supposed to happen. How do they coordinate it? A certain time? |
Ed proposed to me in front of a Cirque du Soleil tent (my fave thing, and now he has to take me every time they come to town).
If I knew my life would be a circus from then on, maybe *I* woulda rethought. HEHEHE |

the one time i was close, i had it worked out were i would poured flammable gel on the curvey road near outs and was planning on flicking a match on it when i took her out on a ride so it would light up "will you marry me"
wildfires be damned! |
Hmmm, we went to visit my parents for our first Christmas together, he tied the ring to Abigail (the dog) and let her loose. I picked her up, loved on her and set her back down and immediately was asked to pick the dog back up and see what she had for me. It was awesome. 2 years last Tuesday and still feels like the first days.

I bought her the ring and took her out to a nice dinner was gonna propose after dinner on the beach. During dinner she tells me she's pregnant. We have been together 10 years last november

I met A when we went on a snow ski trip for school, I decided to try and snowboard on this trip. I am a skier, I know that now. She was friends with the guy I got bunked with. First time we were riding a chair lift together with this friend. I lost my balance getting off and knocked her and myself over. We joked around the whole trip and I got her number later in that trip and we started dating.
I got her a trip back to that ski resort for the same weekend a few years later for a Christmas present. I had the whole thing set up with a stranger I met, so I could ask him to take pictures of the spot where I knocked her over. He was in on it. So I pretended to ask him to take our picture and then surprised the ever living shit out of her right there. Got pics of it happening, so she was pretty happy with that. Had a bunch of stuff back in the room setup. Good time was had by all. Oh yeah, the best part is she is not a good skier. So being all embarrassed and freaked out by what I had just done, watching her trying to ski down the hill was hilarious. |
Don't remember, but clearly it worked. Been married since Nov 1995.
|
Outside of the Toojays at the Wellington Mall. If I ever get married again, I might step it up a little, but the moment was right, regardless of the location and the failed marriage.
|
All I remember was it being a BIG mistake! Proposed at her home Christmas eve after dating a year, got married 6months later, found out who she REALLY was after I said I do and tired to stick it out for a year and a half before I said fuck it. Been happily divorced for 16 yrs now :D
|
She promised anal if she got a ring, so I gave it to her at Taco Bell... found a hot sauce packet with "Will you marry me?" on it.
|
Erik and I had a nice dinner, ate way too much. So he took me to the OARDC (Ohio State Research & Development Center - was in the news in the fall being destroyed by tornado) for a walk. Got back to the truck where he proposed. The location was significant in that is where we went on my very first sportbike ride, obviously with him.
We had been dating 10 months at that point and was married 4 months later. We had known each other for a few years since we worked for the same company. It was 7 years in November. This took place the day after I got my motorcycle license so I tell people that I had to have that before I could get a marriage license. :) |

I asked my ex-husband to marry me I believe in the apartment I lived in at the time. I have been trying to remember and honestly can not. Either way I wish I hadn't. I'm divorced now and loving it! :)

He proposed to me at a ski resort in NC. I could look and figure out which one but I don't really care. :lol
We'd been together for about 6 months, and he proposed on Christmas Eve vacation. I knew he was going to do it that weekend (I had picked the ring out and he went to buy it by himself on Black Friday) but just didn't know when. We were standing there watching all the skiers go by when he did it. He didn't get down on one knee because he was embarrased to do it publicly but that was fine. It was very sweet. Now I'm divorced and loving it :rockwoot: |

By the shore of Lake Tahoe on a ski trip. Maybe we should go back to sign the divorce papers.

On the Plaza in KCMO in front of Tivol(where he got my ring).
I knew it was coming because my dumb ass dad told me that Daniel had called him to ask permission just a few days prior. We had been together a little over a year, got married about 7 months later, May will be 7 years married. I like him alright...I think I'm gonna keep him. |
