It doesn't really mean anything.
Its like showing a chart showing only seatbelt usage and fatalities.
You would have to make the assumption that usage would have made a difference in outcome.

"Helmeted rider traveling at high rate of speed collided with dump truck and died"

Well if he wasn't wearing a helmet then he would have lived!!!

I take it you didn't actually read the article.

From the page right before that:

Quote:

Helmets are estimated to be 37-percent effective in preventing fatal injuries to motorcycle riders and 41 percent for motorcycle passengers. In other words, for every 100 motorcycle riders killed in crashes while not wearing a helmet, 37 of them could have been saved had all 100 worn helmets.
That was even highlighted in the sidebar.

Numbers of fatalities (helmeted or not) in a state are meaningless without knowing the total population of riders. I don't understand why NHTSA never seems to put the important numbers in their charts...

I wear a lid so my pretty face doesnt get fugly.

Table 6 shows 6 total deaths in Alaska, of which 3% were over 0.8% BAC. That equates to 0.18 riders. How does 0.18 of a rider maintain control of a bike? You would think someone would proof read this shit.

Facts get in the way of a story.

Wearing a lid in ND will save your life!

If they were on their way back from an ABATE rally, they probably wouldn't have a lid and would have survived.

Looking at that chart I noticed the numbers were all over the place. I'd guess that states that had such a high number of deaths of motorcyclists wearing helmets, are probably states that require helmets. The numbers at the bottom are totals of all states combined. With some states requiring the use of helmets, that chart does't prove squat about whether or not the helmet saved or cost the rider his life.

More likely to be an idiot, if you draw that conclusion from the article.

I hope you aren't teaching those kids anything. At least give them a fighting chance.

That's why they are dead.

It is tough enough to maintain control as only 1/5 of a rider but it's nearly impossible when you're drunk too!
