To-Nite we're going to party like it's 1929.

I refuse to recognize Kentucky as the South. Tennessee only half qualifies.

I like being ignorant too. Like right now, I am pretending that this is not real and also that Kentucky is a fake state.

Every time I dare to think we're making some progress, something like this pops up.
:td: |
I drove thru Pike County 10-12 yrs ago.....it was a fucking joke.
All the kids were "cruising" back and forth in front of a Kmart. That's all there was to do in Pikeville. I walked into an Arby's nearby, and they were selling t-shirts saying "I cruise the plaza" :lol If you pull up Census data on average income and educational achievement, the southeastern quadrant of Kentucky is one of the bleakest places in the country. People living in corrugated tin roofed homes, and selling used hubcaps on the side of the road. |
This is what Democracy looks like
"In a move to "promote greater unity" among its body and the Pike County community it serves, a small Kentucky church voted to ban interracial couples from membership and from participating in certain worship activities, Kentucky.com reports." |

I have no problem with it... If the majority doesn't want you there, your only reason for being there is to cause problems... It's not a government sponsored entity so they have the right to refuse anyone for any backwards bigoted reason they want...

Also, I don't think anyone here was upset about the legality of the decision, just the stupidity. |

There's a banjo playing nearby, no doubt... |
The church is doing this couple a favor.

I'm with shrike... while it's fuck'n retarded...
it's a blessing. ignorance is contagious... wouldn't want my family/friends catch'n that shit |

It just makes me think of those situations where it's a little more obvious... people aren't tolerant of me, so I'm going to force it down their throats... |
And here I thought religions were supposed to preach love and tolerance towards others. Oh thats right, its only if you believe in what MY religion says.

To be fair though, from the way I read the OP, this rule didn't go into effect until after the couple had visited the church. They didn't do anything out of spite. They showed up and were told not to come back. Now, if they keep coming back... |

They went to the church once together. It was probably at the recommendation of her father that is the church's clerk. The fiance played the piano and they sang together. They were asked to never sing again. Then the vote came out. They didn't take a STAND against the church and continue to go where not wanted. Since when does a bigoted herd EVER consider logic? |
Comments retracted, before Trip starts a-swingin' the ol' ban hammer for this being in the wrong section. I can't risk two in one week
