Makes you wonder if a few phone calls are being made to Troy for a few "just for fun" races :D

Dave 03-15-2009 12:57 PM

or maybe to rossi for a wildcard slot. he has been seeking one recently :2cents:

How sweet would that be?...I doubt his contract will allow him to do it, though :(

Dave 03-15-2009 05:26 PM

from what ive been reading i think its ok as long as its not a track used in the motogp season

Salt Lake? lol

This is bad for GP.... if he gets a taste and likes it... there goes your centerpiece and about half of your fans.

Dave 03-15-2009 07:12 PM

IMO gp is dead in the water anyway

just the way things are going right now...
-the racing isn't as exciting as WSBK... Rossi has said so publicly...
-the cost is mounting... kawi pulled out... Dorna had to sponsor the team so they'd have enough bikes to fill the grid
-Honda provides motors to about half the field but now is putting a rev limiter on every bike but the factory bikes... so no privateer will have a fighting chance

I've also heard rumors honda and a few other privateers were gonna pull out... there needs to be big change for the series to be wildly successful again... with WSBK blossoming... and the cost mounting for MotoGP.... it doesn't give a good forcast

Rider 03-16-2009 09:19 AM

That big bang Yamaha is fast as fuck... I'm sure the rider helps too. :rockout:
I keep hoping Biaggi will bin it... No such luck though.

no real competition, no real benefit to retail bikes, factory pull out

if that were true sykes would be up front all the time. and eff you! i like biaggi :rockwoot:

z06boy 03-16-2009 09:30 AM

Spies is kickin' azz and I'm glad to see it. American on a Yamaha...works for me.

In the past I've been more of a Moto GP fan but that has changed. I still like GP racing but WSBK is just more fun to watch imho.

I do hope Rossi stays out front.

smileyman 03-16-2009 11:45 AM

BOOM! Spies is for real!
Suprise! The Aprilia is for real!:rockwoot:

well its a mid pack bike right now. a very distant midpack.

smileyman 03-16-2009 04:13 PM

Suppose that is better than Kawaski, who have been in the series for years and still a mid pack bike!

from what ive read of the cube it was an insanely powerful motor in a subpar chassis with almost no front end feel. Haga crashed it 28 times in one season!

speaking of Haga... wtf was with him in Qatar?! dude didn't ride at all like he normally does... he was patient... and just let max lead in the first race for the longest time... wasn't until Spies got up there did he start trying to get by...

:idk: he looked good though... this would be his year... but it's gonna take a lot to stop Spies... 4 races 3 wins... one 16 where he had two offs.. :panic:

Dave 03-16-2009 08:57 PM

he might be trying to adjust to spies. he's already discovered you cant intimidate the guy

101lifts2 03-17-2009 02:01 AM

Did you hear Haga say that Spies won because he is 10 years younger. LOL

Spies' bike pulls like a bat outta hell as compared to those Aprillias.

The boy is talented to the hilt though.

JK 03-17-2009 06:57 AM

yeah where did the aprilia come from?! i thought it was just biaggi until shinya put his just off podium.

i think Xaus may stick his BMW up front once or twice but corser will be more consistent on the thing. I hope they do well.

really? every time down the front stretch out the first corner it looked like both twins, the duc and the ape... would pull on spies... but being such a long straight... spies caught them back... :idk:

yeah I think towards the end of the season... BMW will have a couple podium finishes... but shit.. they've got some stiff comp with the 1198 the ape... and the new R1...

smileyman 03-17-2009 11:20 AM

I have heard on Superbike Planet and a couple other inerviews that Yamaha insiders admit the cross plane engine is down on top end HP. They also claim it doesn't hit the high straightaway trap speeds the Duc, GSXR, or Aprilia do.

This due to the fact they have not figured out how tight they can turn it and it still live. I feel like as they put race miles on these engines and experiment a little more that we will see a higher output cross plane later this season.

That said it doesn't look like they are going to need any more top end for now...:pat:

Mr Lefty 03-17-2009 11:30 AM

No shit!

Agreed...there trap speed seems off about 8mph to some of the others on the long straights.

Didn't Haga say something like "he will bring the pain to Spain" ?

The ape is a V4 now... which is a shame, I love the v-twin powerband and the noises they make! But more power to them if they can win races in their first year... c'mon aprilia...

Oh, and Spies is a monster. He surprised everyone as a wildcard in MotoGP last year.

Rider 03-17-2009 02:17 PM

I'm liking the sound of the Big Bang motor. It falls somewhere between a traditional I-4 and a V-twin and the Akra's complement it well. Deep, fat tone that sill has the high revs on top.

Mr Lefty 03-17-2009 02:18 PM

Huh. Though the ape was a twin... Thanks for the correction!

the ones in the daytona 200 were the older twin rsv r 1000s. Which is the only place i could see you getting befuddled. Ive certainly done enough rambling about the new v4 lol

Mr Lefty 03-17-2009 04:55 PM

Lol yeah dave you have... Brain fart I guess...
