Q about slip-on
My main reason for liking slip-on's is for the sound. I had Yoshi slip-on's on my '01 R6 and '06 R6s, they sounded great.
I just put a Yoshi on my '07 R6 (high rev) and I think it pretty much sounds like the stock exhaust. Is it cause it's a shorty? Or the bike? Or did we do something wrong on the install? I am really disappointed with it. :( |
Did you put the same kind of pipe on?
Meaning, Hindle makes a stealth and a supersport (since I'm not familiar with Yosh). The supersport is louder. So did you maybe buy something similar to the stealth instead of the supersport version. |

There should be a rivet... drill it out and pull out the silencer.
|
Wait a minute... check for an insert in the end of the pipe. If you take that out it will get much louder. I think it's held in with an allen screw.

My Tri-Oval has one and removing the allen didn't do shit.

This allen... if you remove it the insert should be able to be pulled out... http://www.yoshimura-rd.com/ps-3122-...n-slip-on.aspx There may be more than one screw holding it in, take the canister back off and inspect it carefully and see if there are an allen or two holding that inner sleeve in. Don't start drilling your $500 slip-on until you are SURE the insert doesn't just come out like Yosh says it will. If you are still in doubt then for God's sakes call Yoshimura @ 800 634 9166. |
That or it can be because you still have the cat on there. The stock muffler has no silencing feature at all. I replaced the cat on my '09 r6 and kept the stock muffler on and my bike's loud as fuck now. The cat does most of the silencing, this could add or be the reason why it's pretty quiet.

Don't worry, I won't do anything without checking with Yoshimura or have a mechanic do it for me. :D |
The 08 and 09 GSXR600/750s had the cat welded to the header. You could pull the stock can and put on any aftermarket slip on and it doesn't change sound or performance. You might have the same thing going on. If your cat is not welded on pull it off and have a pipe custom fitted to go between the slip on and the header.

or punch out that cat. Gonna need a pcIII after you do it though

Took the silencer out of the Yosh when I installed it on the SV... Thought it was a bit loud at first, but got used to it.
Now... compared to the Buell, it sounds stock  |

I could put it back in, but then it would be REALLY quiet. |
A showty can should always be more aggrisive (not always louder though).
Turn up the bass and watch in HQ Stock scorpion (not sure what it was meant for) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmM8P...e=channel_page Stubby Yoshi (probably half size) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa1bg...e=channel_page Not necessary louder but you hear the deepness of the growl. |
