How appropriate...

I'm on hold with the IRS.

They have a question about the legitimacy of claiming tequila as a business expense, (seemed reasonable to me...)

So, after pressing 1 for English (there's no Portuguese option) and entering my Tax Payer ID #, they cranked up the "on hold" music.

What's playing? A little mid-seventies Elton John perhaps?

No. It's the Nutcracker Suite.

Cute. Assholes.

bwahahahaha...just hold your breath when they start with the water...

Tequila IS a business expense, so long as you were engaged in business at the time of consumption!

Gas Man 04-24-2009 01:00 PM

OH snap... Go Rae with the reasons!

What did the IRS say?

its 20 mins later!!

WTF

the chi 04-24-2009 01:03 PM

 TRULY!! A "working" lunch/dinner outing, treating the employees and discussing work, it totally counts!!

I was at BWW's with an attorney friend of mine for a Monday Night Football game. We asked him about a case he was working on. He picked up the entire tab for the evening because we were "talking business". So I can see how Tequila can be a legitimate expense as long and you were talking work at the time. :rockout:

My parents once put an entire vacation as a business expense since it was with another couple they worked with. Got away with it free and clear.

I do that all the time, we call it "Benchmarking." Got to go to Disney World and Fort Lauderdale last year. Going to Washington DC in a few weeks and probably a few other places.

I hate the IRS. I feel that statement alone is enough reasoning when dealing with these pricks.

What did they say, btw?

This the reason we need to go to a fair or consumption tax. There are too many people writing off everything...

askmrjesus 04-25-2009 07:03 PM

They were actually cool about it, once they finally took me off hold.

I explained that most of my clients are total alcoholics (which is true), and that my "entertainment" deductions are all backed up by receipts (which is mostly kinda true, sort of) and they said, "Ok".

I'm probably going to be audited now, but I have a plan for that, (it involves Tequila...)

If can GM write down 39 Billion in future tax deferments in a single quarter, my Tequila tab is the least of our problems.

There are too many people who aren't paying anything...and some get more back in refund, than they paid in

The problem with consumption tax is that there will be complete misers who will earn a ton and yet spend nothing. The government would have to wait till the misers die and their kids inherit the money before collecting tax on things. The government is too far in debt to wait that long, so they're just going to tax everything they can now.
