Ever unintentionally scrape a peg?
I went out for a ride over lunch intending for it to be just a nice, relaxing ride through the back roads...
For the record, I tend to take fairly conservative lines by choice just because. I can scrape pegs when I choose, but I tend not to by design Anyhow, I was riding today and didn't notice that I was riding more and more aggressively to the point where I went into a left hander and scraped my peg without meaning to. Immediately, my mind said STOP and decided to examine what the hell was going on. UNFORTUNATELY, all of my brain power was focused on reviewing the past events that I blew the NEXT left hander (though I had already slowed down to about 20 or so) and went into the grass briefly before snapping myself out of it and, after a squirly back tire moment, got back on the pavement. Apparently, I went out more keyed up than I thought. I'll be keeping an eye out for THAT again going forward! It's safer that way! |
no, i had vortex rearsets on mine, if I scrape a peg the rear wheel is coming off the ground and I am going to be sliding across the pavement.
|
Yep.
In fact, I've never intentionally scraped a peg. |
I have.
I used to race pocket, and the lean angles are ridiculious. I took my Ninja out just to cool down after some warm-ups (wasn't even wearing a helmet...had no intention of "pushing it", I was literally just trying to cool off...) and the next thing I know, I'm scraping peg. |
Nope. I've never scraped peg. Which I find odd.
Negligible strips on rear. Very tiny on front and never touched a peg down. (no feelers however, I removed those) |
I scraped a peg once following a guy down Lime Creek Rd... startled the hell out of me. But it only happened the one time on my old F2.
|
On a cruiser yes...on a sportbike...no.
|
Yep! Ended up sliding thru T8 at Jennings...
|
Absolutely...with the wife on back.
|
I used to scrape pegs on my Ninja 250 all the time but it didn't have a huge amount of ground clearance. I have never scraped a peg on the Gixxer but I came awful close at the Dragon during the rally when I rolled through a tight left hand switchback and drug my toe slider on the pavement. Had my toes up high on the pegs too. Thats what folding pegs and ground feelers are for.

Couple times. bad body position will do that... :?:

Had one catch the curbing at Barber at pretty high speed last month. :panic: It happens occasionally on the streets, just really depends on the banking. |

My body position is a little harder to recreate but I was probably more neutral than hanging off |
Yes and almost levered myself into a low-side. Hanging off solved that problem.
|
Yes, only on the track though. I quickly removed them after.

I find that because I switch the bikes I ride around scraping a peg unintentionally isn’t really that uncommon. It happens to me most on the Gl1800. The Wing is a incredibly nimble machine for its size but the pegs sit low when compared to my Busa and Ducati Thanks to its excellent suspension it is quite possible to find yourself taking a corner at a steeper angle than you thought. The wing makes this no problem though as its weight allows the peg to fold and momentum pulls you through. All you have to do is give a bit more throttle.
My Victory on the other had like many V-Twin heavy cruisers scrapes if you lean much at all so no real surprises. Lately I find myself accidently peg down on the Busa a bit more often, (guess I am getting a bit more daring or a bit more senile this carries some additional challenges as it has a stage 2 turbo set up on it an modulating the throttle is a bit more important as it will tear a tire loose with relative ease so it requires more judgment. I can’t say I have ever unintentionally scraped a peg on the 999 just to precise a chassis. |
on the track but not on the road (I've scraped EXHAUST on the track - but it was a cruiser ;))
and because I can: :boobs: |
Scraped the floorboard on my V-Star but I was trying to avoid a chain link fence
Scared the pee out of me  |
Yup. I get pretty lazy with body positioning after a long stint in the saddle. Bit one solid mount rearset into a turn at TWS once and ate it hard. It was a raised curbing after about 30 min into a race. Lean the body and feel your way ... i hang my boot toe on the outside of it now to give me a little margin
|
Yeah... my wife's VLX is so ridiculously low that i've dragged the pegs just riding around town.
There's also a nasty curve going up to Caesar's Head that gets me every time I ride there, a very tight, sharply inclined right-hander banked the wrong way... the road comes up so abruptly you can almost drag peg riding dead upright. |
Yes, it was unintentional when I crashed.
|
Did it all the time on the Ninja 250. It stopped surprising me pretty quick.
|
Yes. Scraped my pipes too. Wakes you up and makes you get off your butt!!

Nope. If my pegs hit, I'm afraid the rest of me is going to be on the ground shortly after.

You jinxed me Particle! I was riding at Summit Point today and clipped my peg on the curbing in a left-hander, sending me into an immediate low-side. Fortunately when my bike hit the dirt, it flipped and smashed the right side up too so everything matches again.

Damn man. Sorry to hear that. I guess you are alright though.

You ok? |
Yeah I'm ok, just a lot of bruising and a little sore. And the ego took a good hit.
I had just won the race school 4-lap mock race. Second place was over 20 seconds behind me and I had lapped traffic in sight about 1 turn ahead of me. I took the checkered and binned it in the only turn between the finish line and the paddock. Effin'. Sucked. But it was kinda funny too. Can't help but laugh... |
