Ride to work day June 15th...

"June 15th, 2009 will mark the 18th Annual International Ride To Work Day. The FIM is embracing this event throughout its affiliated federations to demonstrate support for road and street riding activities worldwide.

The RTW Day originated in the USA and is now an international event. Riders throughout the world will be riding their bikes and scooters to their workplace on this day to demonstrate that motorcycles are an important form of transportation as well as recreation. Fellow employees, politicians and the general public will be aware of the commuting motorcyclist.

Scooters and motorcycles require much less space to park and manoeuvre in busy cities and relieve traffic congestion. In addition, they use less fuel, cause less pollution and have little impact on the road and bridge infrastructure.

The FIM encourages street riders to participate in this event held worldwide on June 15 in 2009. Ride your motorcycle or scooter to work and show everyone the advantages and responsible use of resources by taking part in this activity.

Additional information on this event can be found at: www.ridetowork.org.

About Ride to Work Day
International Motorcycle & Scooter Ride to Work Day is observed each year on the third Monday in June. It is sponsored by Ride to Work, a nonprofit organization that advocates and supports the use of motorcycles and scooters for transportation. For more information go to http://www.ridetowork.org "

June 15th is a Monday, and since I work a 4-10 schedule, it's my day off... but I might be at a track day that day.

I will NOT be riding to work. I'll be sitting on the beach in sunny Avon North Carolina.

Mrs. Colleen 06-10-2009 05:08 PM

I have actually been riding to work this week...usually only my weekend toy...but I don't like riding on Mondays because of my schedule.

Maybe I will have to make an exception.......

Smittie61984 06-10-2009 05:18 PM

I'll be riding my bicycle that day. Well I'll have to drive my 12mpg Chevy truck to work and then an additional 40miles to the mountain bike trails I plan to ride and then 60miles back. Me and two other friends will be driving seperate trucks.

rogue 06-10-2009 05:33 PM

Since my bike is my ONLY mode of transportation, I'll be riding. I'm off work Monday but I'll be riding somewhere

tached1000rr 06-10-2009 06:38 PM

I ride to work everyday unless it's raining before I leave home.

Yamerhaw 06-10-2009 07:40 PM

i might but i doubt it, too much trouble to undo all the cables, locks, let it warm up, get geared up, to ride for 3 minutes each way

LeeNetworX 06-12-2009 03:06 PM

Bah. My manager will be up here on Monday. I'll be driving to work as I'll need to be looking and smelling fresh. lol

LeeNetworX 06-15-2009 02:32 PM

So how many of you guys rode to work today?

rogue 06-15-2009 02:42 PM

I'm not working today, but I plan on getting out on the bike for errands later when it cools down some. Right now it's 90, but feels like 95 and this isn't the peak time of the day. I'm not going anywhere in this heat unless I have to. I'm waiting for it to cool off some.

Cutty72 06-15-2009 05:35 PM

I rode my boots to the TOC this AM, and then I rode my CUCV out to the TA for awhile.
Great times.

HurricaneHeather 06-15-2009 05:50 PM

I didn't ride.

HokieDNA01 06-15-2009 06:01 PM

Work from home so riding to work isn't an option. Might take her for a spin tonight

tached1000rr 06-15-2009 06:04 PM

I rode to work today but usually do, got soaked on the way home but it's all good.

Same here, waited out a storm at work and wound up catching up to it on the way home.

Tom

marko138 06-15-2009 07:09 PM

Not me, I sipped beer on the beach all day.

jalaan1 06-15-2009 07:20 PM

Weather channel had a 70% chance of rain today plus it was heavy clouds this morning so I drove the Suburban to work.

I work 7 -4:30 and was kicking myself in the ass as it cleared up and was sunny. Until 3:30 when some clouds moved in.

about 4:20 I heard thunder as I was getting ready to leave. :tremble:

I got into the suburban at 4:40, it was 78* and it was lightning towards my 18 mile drive home.

After 4 miles, it started to rain extremely heavily. By 5 miles, I had to slow to 15-20 mph because of the heavy hailstorm I was in. I was in pea to grape size hail and was wondering if 20 mph was going to bust my winshield. :tremble: The temp dropped to 52*

A few miles up the road I literally considered pushing the button for 4wd as I was driving in 1-1/2" of hail on the road. :lol

The roads were flooded and all kinds of debris had washed onto the road. A few miles later I was out of the heavy storm and by about 6 miles from home, the sun was out :wtf:

Two miles from home the roads were completely dry and it didn't even rain at home :skep:

I guess I lucked out by not riding

Jeff

Mrs. Colleen 06-15-2009 09:02 PM

I rode...but did not find out until after I was at work that it might rain today. :tt:

Ended up taking my bike home in the middle of the day to swap it for my car. :td:

Either way I was excited to try out my new everyday riding pants. :rockwoot:

Mr Lefty 06-16-2009 07:23 AM

I usually ride every day... but never mondays... monday's I have to wear my blues (dress uniform)

but I ride every other day.

was92v 06-16-2009 07:37 AM

I rode to work and only saw 2 other bikes on the road. I usually see more than that on any other day. I guess the 60% chance of rain put em in cars.

Same thing up here. I had to push through sinc eparkings an issue at one jobsite. I was riding yesterday no matter what.

For a brief moment on the way up here I did see that yellow round thing they call the sun :rockwoot: I swear NY is turning into seattle with all the damn rain here.

RACER X 06-16-2009 08:21 AM

Tmall 06-16-2009 08:40 AM

Why do you wear dress blues every week?
That sounds ghey. Maybe just leave 'em in your office and change when you get there.

Just because I have honestly had it in the shop 7 or so times in the last year does not mean it's unreliable!!

it's because I'm in a training environment... though the entire AF has been going to "blues monday's" cause people fuck off and don't keep their uniform's serviceable.

I do keep my Blue's at work... but lunch... and the occasional trip across base... doesn't work. it's inevitable if I ride on monday... I'll have to go somewhere too far to walk.

I've had four Suzukis in a row that haven't been in the shop 7 times put together. If you eliminate crashes and fork seals ruined by bad wheelies and stoppies, that number goes to two and they were both recalls. Some rinky dink part on the 'Busa and the frame recall on the '06 GSXR.:rockwoot:

It was a few recalls, and then the same problem that the techs never figured out over and over.

Ouch, that's the worst kind! I'd imagine you're not paying for these visits.

Ugh, a buddy of mine has been having a recurring problem with his Buell as well. Dunno if it ever got resolved... I know he's taken it to like two or three different dealerships in the area and no one seemed to be able to figure it out.

It was all warranty work. So, I wasn't really pissed.

Archren, mine was running very rich. It had a lot of stumbling and hesitation. Would idle irratically and stall. Turned out to be a bad throttle position sensor.

Sounds very similar to the symptoms my friend's bike has been having. I'll mention it to him to see if anyone has checked it yet.

I think this happened to OSP as well on his trip out west but he traded it in for the 954 to get back home.

marko138 06-24-2009 01:57 PM

It's common knowledge that most of the fools that work on Buells at the dealer are just that...fools. Which is a shame for the company to have such a shitty network of dealers, salesmen included.

I'm lucky...I've got a great dealer and a good service department. They've always been good to me in the two times I've been there. (TPS reset and headlight recall).
