How much longer before your next bike?

How long do you typically keep your bike before getting something different?

How much longer before you are riding something different?

Gas Man 06-27-2009 10:32 PM

Seems like every 3-4 yrs I switch, even though I keep telling myself I'll keep "this one".

derf 06-27-2009 10:45 PM

My first bike 2 months, my 2nd bike 1 years, and my 3rd bike 5 years. Hopefully I keep this one for a few years, I'd be happy with 3 or 4 more.

Trip 06-27-2009 10:48 PM

2 years for my first 2 bikes. I got a feeling the beemer will be around longer, but I said that about the CBARRR. I don't know what I want to do with the DRZ yet. I could trade that for a pure dirt bike within the year or keep it and get motard tires for it.

Dave 06-27-2009 10:54 PM

my first bike lasted four months, the 954 has been around a year and a half and im seriously contemplating swapping it once the title hits my grubby little paws.

Sixxxxer 06-27-2009 10:57 PM

Probably Once I pay off the ZX6 Ill get somethign Diff...Maybe not though.

I may have another project in the works ;)

ruh roh, and here i thought you were leaning the same way i was ;) you didnt find a cheap zx7 did you?

Mrs. Colleen 06-27-2009 11:06 PM

Coming up on 2 years now...no plans in sight of getting rid of it.

Mark and I tend to hold on to our vehicles...he has had his bike for over 8 years. Just mod them until they are perfect...then mod them some more. :willy:

Ok spill the beans....

Sixxxxer 06-27-2009 11:20 PM

Lol...

It has four wheels...Not two.

derf 06-27-2009 11:29 PM

The basket case in your garage?

Sixxxxer 06-27-2009 11:31 PM

Lol.

Yep. If the Deal I have lines up correctly...I would have a running car to swap everything into the yellow one...And it would be a helluva lot cheaper than building mine from ground up...Good starting point to work with...And I'd most likely get my spare block/head built and ready to go as I would FULLY plan on boosting the piss out of Motor A. Until It blows...Then Swap in Motor B. which would be built up and ready to go :)

derf 06-27-2009 11:49 PM

Sweet deal then.

101lifts2 06-28-2009 03:33 AM

I had a boatload of bikes....always got rid of them every 6 months, but now I've had my 07 600rr for 2 years and 2 months. I've finally found a bike that the suspension works well all the time. Though I wouldn't mind having the new ZX6r for 09.

t-homo 06-28-2009 04:36 AM

Had the blast for a year. I've had this one for a little over a year. Plan on keeping this one till it dies, and then I'll probably just throw a new motor in it and keep going.

nhgunnut 06-28-2009 07:44 AM

Struggling with this my self I barely ride the Ducati or the Victory any more and I keep thinking about trading or selling the pair to get something else. Antone got something fun to trade?

nhgunnut 06-28-2009 11:16 AM

I have a gf WITH a 250 that I'd trade for the Ducati, how about that?!?!? She's had only a few "owners" and she performs on demand. She's equally suited for "on or off road" duty and gets great mileage. Believe it or not, she's only been "ridden" for about 4 years and apparently not very hard until recently:whistle:. Although, I can assure you that she has been well lubed and maintained:wink:. Oh and she doesn't require the monthly "downtime" that most of these models require. Only an "additive" every 6 months....

The wrong woman hears that and you're gonna die in your sleep, you know that, right? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

CrazyKell 06-28-2009 12:14 PM

I've had Boo for 3 years now and he'll be sticking around for a few more. Eventually he'll go to track only and then I'll get something else. :idk:

I know you're joking. Just trying to ferret out the Lorena Bobbits. :D

Rangerscott 06-28-2009 12:50 PM

I dont plan on ever selling my vfr unless I wreck her and cant fix her. Then I'll part her out and find another vfr. LOL

JoJoYZF 06-28-2009 01:05 PM

Ive had my bike for a little over two years now and will probably be getting something new once I get a real job. Til then I paid it off about a week ago so the no payments part fits me nicely.

Yea my bike is paid for and quite frankly, I haven't seen anything with the new bikes that would entice me enough to take on payments. I'll just keep spending a grand a year approximately to keep mine "fresh". Hell, maybe I'll do rims this year...:idk:

HokieDNA01 06-28-2009 03:35 PM

Think I will be keeping the 750 for a while. fits me great, plenty of power and is comfortable for short sprints or long rides.

Mr Lefty 06-28-2009 06:23 PM

too long

zed 06-28-2009 06:32 PM

the next bike I buy (I'm hoping anyway, baring any crashes) will be what ever they come out with as the new bike. may be fuel cel or electric. I'm planning on keeping this one for a long time.

Yea my next bike is going to fly! Literally!

Fleck750 06-28-2009 07:17 PM

My next bike will be newer than 30 years old. :hitfan:

Like the Triumph Thruxton.

neebelung 06-28-2009 07:53 PM

It'll be about 2 years before I switch. I've only had this bike since November, and I love it.... BUT we do an to spawn in about a year, so we're discussing what we'll do with Scarlet at that time. We might make her a track bime at that point, then once I've hatched/ready to ride again, I want a Triumph Street Triple R for my next daily rider.

pauldun170 06-29-2009 12:53 PM

If all goes according to plan, Fall of 2010.

unknownroad 06-29-2009 02:47 PM

Whenever I happen to have money and come across a good deal on something interesting :idk: I'm not planning to sell any of my current bikes, but I've still got room left to store a couple more :dthumb:

rogue 06-29-2009 04:20 PM

Next spring, if all goes well. :)

buzzcutt2 06-29-2009 04:30 PM

Had my first bike a year and a half until someone else decided they wanted it...current bike I have had for 5 years, no plans on getting rid of it - will likely just add another in the next year or so.

Ducati Diva 06-29-2009 10:24 PM

I am on my first bike, I don't plan on ever selling her but maybe next summer (hopefully I feel I'm good enough) I would like to upgrade to something else.
Jeeps usually canges every year or two. My duc was his, it's the only bike he's kept.

Rangerscott 06-30-2009 12:04 AM

If we had a triump dealership here I'd buy one of them. Either the Sprint or Triple or 675.

There's a ktm dealership that sells Aprilia but they so high. I'd have to sucky sucky $5 for a wong time.

Shit dude that will be the first new bike you got since I met you on CF from like 6 years ago. LOL ZX11 and now what?

Honda 1000rr FTW!!!

Phenix_Rider 06-30-2009 09:40 AM

My Ninja is staying. Eventually I want another street bike and a dirt bike and track bike

If I really wanted to, I could add enough to my savings to dump it all on a new bandit in about 3 months. Same way I bought this one- no payments, thank you. Anything over that would take a bit longer.

marko138 06-30-2009 10:39 AM

Not sure. Could be soon...but more likely another year or two. And probably another Buell or a HD.

Unless Kawamahazuki pull a rabbit out their ass...I am going Honda.
I'm guessing I should get a new Jacket and boots as well. I got em a few months afetr I got the ZX-11.

Jacket moves by itself nowadays. I have the remains of bugs long extinct in the northern hemisphere on that sucker.

Every once in awhile I break out the leather cleaner ("awhile" defined as twice)

It started life as this:

Yamerhaw 06-30-2009 12:58 PM

had this Suzuki going on 2 years i think, been looking around at some other bikes, thinking about maybe a ZX 10, but this 1000 just does everything so damn good, i'd hate to get rid of it

Cutty72 06-30-2009 01:13 PM

Um, probalby after I get a new pickup and ATV... then maybe.

Particle Man 06-30-2009 05:36 PM

I've had this one for 6 years - while I like to look and eventually I'll get a GS, this one works just fine for now.

Who knows when I'll get a new one.

RACER X 06-30-2009 05:40 PM

what is this new bike stuff you speak off?

may get a 'busa in a few months to add to the flock.

Apoc 06-30-2009 07:48 PM

not for a while, next purchase it a new truck and a house. The Harley will be paid in 4, then who knows what ill want.

Although if I could pay it off in 2, i'd possibly look at Ducati 998 or something to park next to it.

But ill probably get another new sled before I buy another bike... Sled season is longer, and im not joking even a little.

Is that 4 months or years?

Dave 06-30-2009 11:09 PM

thinkin today i might want to hang on to the blade another year or so. i could snag a leftover ten to replace my 954 fairly easily but if i scrimp and save for a bit i could get what i really want, an rsv4. ive been reading early reports from guys in europe who just got theirs and damn if it doesnt sound like its worth waiting for. hopefully they dont detune the base model's mapping. we'll see

Dnyce 07-01-2009 02:41 AM

had my kawi about 9 years, ive redone it 3times

had the gsxr750 bout a year, would only trade it for a slightly newer one or a daytona 675

racedoll 07-01-2009 10:16 AM

Ninja 250 = 5 years though only rode it for 2, just sold it last spring to a guy at work.
600 = August will be 5 years and it's not going any where for a LONG time. 1.) I love it, 2.) I can't afford a new bike and a car payment.

Erik on the other hand...
ZX9 = 4 years
04 ZX10 = 2 years (not quite)
99 CBR = 2-4 weeks
07 ZX10 = 2 years (not quite)
05 ZX10 = 3 months or so

He is the same with cars. I don't care, as long as he doesn't try to trade me in

doh!!!

z06boy 07-01-2009 10:27 AM

No plans to buy anything in the near future. The wife and I would like to add two cruiser types to the stable at some point to go along with the sportbikes.

If I was to switch sportbikes...maybe and I say MAYBE a Ducati 1098 or 1198 but I'm not 100 % sure about that. I thought I may want an 09 R1 but for the difference in $$ over my 07...I'll just keep my 07.

Apoc 07-01-2009 11:52 AM

years :lol I still got like 18.5k (CDN) to pay on it... and 8 on the Sled. As soon as one is paid, Daddy will have a new toy. But not before. Like I said, next is a truck. Probably a leftover Ford F350(2007 leftovers are 31k about 3 hours from here), or a used F350 King Ranch.

HurricaneHeather 07-01-2009 12:00 PM

I had the Ninja for nearly four years and the Hornet for about a year.

I sold the Hornet because I needed the cash and well the Ninja...she ain't so pretty or fixable anymore. :(

If I buy another bike it will be a motard and probably strictly for the track. I don't know that I will ever ride on the street again. I want a fun bike for the track not a 'I have to go fast because my bike is supposed to be fast' bike.
