Tom's right....he just wants in the Hall. He didn't realize the sports writers are crusty old bitches who hold grudges.

I think this may help his cause but it will still take many years to get in, if he ever does.

My guess is he didn't want to deal with the questions all season again. I think he was just named batting coach for the Cardinals recently.
