Whats the new hotness in street / track tires?

What's the new hotness in street / trackday tires?

I ran GPAs when I was doing a ton of track days and loved them. I put BT003 Race on there because I wanted to run a 180 rear and...the results were kinda mixed. Ran BT016s before that and loved them.

I haven't done track days for a while, car's been sucking up all my track time. Thinking about sticking with something more street oriented. Should I just get another set of BT016s or is there something better out there?

The R10 has replaced the 003's.

I'm no help when it comes to street stuff.

I only ran the 003s because it was the only full DOT race tire I could find in a 180 rear. Seems everyone has gone to 190 or better now. I'd rather get decent rubber in a 190 than shit rubber in a 180, though.

I just want something I can do occasional track days on that won't get burned up on the freeway.

Me too. Plain old Pilot Powers are dirt cheap now. I get pretty good mileage out of them even with a weekend on the Track. I'm sure some of you guys would turn them into a slippery/greasy mess but they work well for me.

They have enough stick for that twin?
Worried about a ST tire on the buell as I'm rather heavy handed and have made the Angel's on there slip more than I care to mention.
But with 6k, I think I would just go with Drewpy's thought and run the powers, I got 6k on the rear with good stick, front was about 50% but wearing funny (cupping bad) on every set I ran.

I've been running BT-016s on the street and like them, good grip, cheap price at a local place, and acceptable wear. If you liked them previously why not go with them again, or you could try the new S20 which is still under $300 a set.

I can't answer directly about a track tire but the two people I know who ride track a lot have stayed with Michelin, either the regular old Pilot Power or the old Power Race if they don't need the DOT stamp of approval. Of course they can also often get take-offs for dirt cheap ($60 a tire with 5 or 6 laps) and the Pilot Powers are under $250 brand new.
