Should I upgrade to an iPhone?

Verizon is changing their plans after 6/28. I don't have a data plan right now and still have an EnV3. I'm considering upgrading to an iPhone, but not sure I really want the added expense.

To upgrade now: phone cost (about $230, plus case), plus $30 per month over current cost (would put me about $90 per month), stay on same plan with 400 minutes talk, unlimited text/pic message, get 2G data.

To upgrage after 6/28: phone cost (about $230 now, but could change, plus case), $90 per month, change plans to unlimited talk, unlimited text/pic message, 1G data. To get to the 2G data point it would be an extra $10 per month.

I have no idea how much data I would use. It's been very rare when I wished I had a data plan, but I know I'd use it if I had one, just don't have any idea how much I'd use.

If you don't have unlimited data, it won't hurt you for this next update to their plans. Its actually better for you to wait for new plans and the iPhone 5. They are just fucking over existing unlimited data users this time.

Check for refurbished ones, you shouldn't be paying $230, unless it's the one with additional memory.

Forgot to mention it's whatever the latest phone is (I think it's the 4) with 16G memory, if that matters. I haven't even looked into prices outside of Verizon as I didn't realize I could buy a phone cheaper than their upgrade cost.

Homeslice 06-25-2012 01:52 PM

There's the 4 and the 4S....... the 4S is faster with a dual-core processor, and a better camera.

As for memory, I think 16GB is the lowest option. AT&T sells the 4S with 16GB for $199 new, or $149 refurbished.

Its stupid to get a 3g phone on Verizon. They are slow as shit.

If you want to save money get a 4 over a 4s. Siri and the camera are the only real noticeable upgrades and not worth the price difference you can grab. 5 is going to anal fuck both of them though.

Or switch to sprint, port your number over and save a bunch of money. Sprint owns everybody else in my area. Their service is crazy cheaper than verizon & AT&T and works just as well and with true unlimited.

Sprint sucks donkey balls in my area, as does everyone except Verizon. I've decided to follow Trip's advice and just wait for the iPhone 5
