Apple Dropping Google search, Google Maps and Youtube
"SAN FRANCISCO — Apple Inc. said Google Inc.’s YouTube, Search or Maps won’t be included in the next update of the software used in the iPhone and iPad, the latest evidence of escalating competition between the companies.
As Google has pushed into the smartphone market, the relationship between the companies has frayed. Google’s Android* software is now the world’s largest operating system for smartphones. Apple also plans to replace Google’s maps application with its own in the next iOS *release. A license has expired that allowed the company to include YouTube, a spokeswoman for Apple said. As a result, the YouTube, Google Maps and Google Search apps won’t be allowed on devices any longer." |
What exactly did the Youtube app do? Just offer a quicker way to upload vids to your YT acct? That doesn't stop you from going straight to YT and uploading from there.

It's not that big of deal. Apple made the app and will no longer be supporting it, it doesn't want to renew the contract with google for obvious reasons. Google will just make their own version like on Android and put it in the App Store. Quote:

youtube app is a must if you want smooth vids. Watching a youtube vid within a forum or whatever is always glitchy. Plus you can't fastward/reverse. If you can then more power to ya.
The real crap part is the constant loading. I got 32gb of space on this damn thing. Cache that shit so I don't have to reload every damn time I touch the progress bar! |
Youtube wasn't html 5 when the iphone came out, so they had to have the app. I guess it's unnecessary now. I like the app, even on my Android, because it ditches the browser bar and runs smoother.
