yeah, they definitely need to be old enough to appreciate it. Would kinda suck to have gone and not understood the meaning.

I grew up in DC being my dad was AF. Field trips always kicked ass. "We can talk about President Washington or we can stand 10ft from his remains"

The absolute earliest memory I have is watching the Space Shuttle Challenger come into Kelly's AFB in San Antonio. I was probably 2 or so but I remember standing on the tarmac looking through the chain link fence at it. Anytime I'm near an airfield everything reminds me of it. Especially the smell.

I'd like to see them release it for the landing.

I still think they should bring the Saturn V rocket back and do night launches only!

Weve moved .5 mi

Cars parked on both sides of road 1 mi away from entrance

2apaches overhead

Yup, seeing the shuttle in person is definitely something to experience. I have always wanted to make it down for a launch but never could find the time or motivation to go. I went to the air and space museum annex last year and go a chance to see the Enterprise shuttle (the test shuttle that never went into space) and was absolutely in awe at its size. I definitely want to go back and see the real shuttles now that one is in the Smithsonian.

Well that was memorable, so glad we got the kids down there. Sad to see an era end.

Our pics were so-so, the pics above are so much better.

City officials lacked in planning as usual, I think there were 7-8 porta cans, and 1 entrance. The exit line crossed the entrance line. What a mess. People were parked 1-2 mi away and walking at 8;45, they planned to close gates at 9. I'm sure some people wre pissed.

News just said 100,000 people
