Well, here's what I came up with for the rally trip. I used 3/8" bolts to mount the tail bag to an extra cover and I'm strapping my back pack to the tail pack.

does the backpack have a back plate or something for the bolts to hold onto?

The tail pack is mounted to the cover and the back pack is strapped to the tail bag. I used huge fender washers on the back of the tailbag. Besides, I'm still gonna use the bungie cords that comes with the tail bag so I'm feeling pretty good about it.

I offcially Love you...Because I was thinking about packign my tail bag but wanted some extra room and was gonna use my riding backpack...But didnt know how I would strap it to the bike...

Never would have thought of putting the backpack around the tailbag...I'll be rocking the same setup just with different gear!!!

J/K! Yea I'm a genius! Make sure that you strap the shoulder straps together under the seat or tailbag so they can't slip off the sides.

I would still be a little cautious about over loading that... if the bag tries to twist those bolts... could crack your cowl... :idk:

good Idea... not sure how I'd improve on it though...

I'm re-examining it right now and I think that I'm alright. As I previously stated, the bolts are in actuality a secondary system to back-up the manufacturer's primary attachment system. As far as improvement goes, I could install metal strips inside the bag and under the cowl for added support or I could just fashion a plate that fits the trunk opening and install the cowl attachment hardware directly to it. Or I could get a seat which is made a lot stronger to support the weight of a person. I don't plan on having more than about 50 lbs in there so I should be okay.
