It's about upshifting coming out of the curves... not IN them. You're hanging way off to conserve lean angle coming out of the turn and need to be able to click them off when you run out of revs,...

That makes sense.... the further back and up your pegs are, the further down the lever is going to be to be comfortable. I imagine I will have to adjust when I get rearsets eventually.
