I have a radio and an MP3 player that automatically controls volume to keep audio at constistent levels. Why don't TV manfacturers do the same?

Great.
Let's put of all the nation's sound engineers out of work, so the makers of Oxy Clean can yell
BUY IT NOW!!! at twice the compression ratio of normal programing.
I don't want my TV dumbed down to one volume level. I want to hear the sound the way is was meant to be heard: High in some spots, low in others.
