Doctors: you can go to Haiti and get you DOCTOR on. Quite a few have gone down there to build their "infectious diseases" resume. Plus..its good PR for the hospital when a few doctors take a month off to go someplace where they don't shower for weeks.
Middle Class\Wealthy white kids ages 18-25: Head down to Haiti "if you want to make a difference" (in the lives of poor minorities)
Haitians: well just because
Missionaries: Haiti is convenient in that its already a Christian nation (though sprinkled with all that supersticious local stuff), and its a HELL of lot closer than Africa so when you send out the newsletter you can get that awesome "Here I am helping these poor negros" shot on the front page. Use to be able to do it with all them central and south americans but with all the fuss with illegal immigration it no longer seems like photos with "poor mexicans" bring in as many donations as they used too.
